The most brilliant and tragic journey in the life of salmon migration

Salmon is a kind of migratory fish. This kind of fish will spawn and reproduce by migration in a fixed season every year. Therefore, every time this season comes, the spectacular sight of salmon makes many people particularly want to know. So how does the migration of salmon create the most brilliant and tragic journey in life? Let’s take a look at the answer below.

Salmon (also called salmon) is a saltwater and freshwater amphibious fish species with unique habits. The young fish are generally hatched in freshwater with slow-flowing mountain streams. The life story of a salmon is amazing. Each pair of female and male fish can lay about four thousand eggs. Many of the eggs are eaten by other fish and birds, and the surviving eggs grow into young fish. In spring, the young fish swim down the river and into the lake, and a year later they swim down the river from the freshwater area into the sea. After four years and countless hardships, they grow into mature salmon weighing about three kilograms. In autumn, they begin to return to their birthplace to lay eggs, starting the most important journey of their lives. At the end of September or the beginning of October, all the mature salmon swim upstream from the sea, following the route they took to go out to sea. The journey back consumes almost all the energy and strength in their bodies. Some salmon become delicacy for other animals, while some salmon die of exhaustion before reaching their destination. Only a very small number of surviving salmon can reach their spawning grounds. The spawning grounds are generally ponds or canyons with open water surfaces, gentle currents, shallow water depths, and plenty of sunlight. After arriving at the spawning grounds, the salmon begin to dig holes on the bottom of the water in pairs to lay and fertilize their eggs, regardless of fatigue. After the spawning and fertilization are completed, both male and female salmon will die of exhaustion, ending their last fight for life just to reproduce the next generation.

According to promotional materials compiled by the Canadian Fisheries and Oceans Service, each pair of salmon can produce an average of 4,000 roe. After a winter of being eaten by birds, other fish, or lost for other reasons, about 800 small fish are hatched in the spring of the following year. Many of them are injured on their way to lakes and the sea, and only about 200 of them can reach the sea. After four years, only 10 can return, of which 8 are captured by humans, and only 2 finally reach their birthplace.

After learning about the migration of salmon above, I believe you also understand salmon. Salmon is a fish with relatively high nutritional value and is relatively simple to prepare. So after the above two points, if you want to eat salmon, you can buy salmon and make it yourself through some understanding of salmon. You can make different salmon and meet your nutritional needs by eating salmon.
