How does Traditional Chinese Medicine treat intestinal obstruction? These three methods work very well

If intestinal obstruction occurs, it must be treated promptly. Among the various treatment methods, Chinese medicine is highly recommended. This method starts with internal conditioning of the body and has better treatment effects. Here are three effective treatments for you.

1. Wenyang Tongbi Decoction

【Source】Tian Guangxiu, Shaanxi Traditional Chinese Medicine (4), 1988

[Composition] 9g each of aconite and fried hawthorn, 6g of asarum, 15g of rhubarb, 30g each of daizheshi and radish seeds (fried), 12g each of Citrus aurantium and Chuan Pu

[Usage] Decoction in water and take after the stomach and intestines are decompressed, 2 to 3 doses a day.

【Function】Warms the Yang and invigorates the spleen, promotes the downward flow and eliminates accumulation.

[Explanation of the prescription] The pathogenesis of intestinal obstruction of stasis type is the failure of the descending, transporting and transforming functions of the spleen, stomach and intestines. The main reasons are improper diet and excessive consumption of raw and cold food, which lead to obstruction of the middle yang, dysfunction of spleen function, and stagnation of qi; or it may be due to deficiency of vital energy, invasion of exogenous pathogens, and deficiency of vital energy and excess of pathogens; or it may be due to internal injuries, which lead to obstruction of the circulation of qi and blood in the central region. This syndrome cannot be cured without warming and cannot be relieved without strong purgatives, so the prescription uses aconite and asarum to warm the yang and relieve numbness; radish seeds, aurantium and Chuanxiong to smooth the qi and relax the intestines; magnetite and rhubarb to descend and relieve qi; and hawthorn to harmonize the stomach and eliminate accumulation. These medicines are used together to achieve the effects of warming the yang, invigorating the spleen, and promoting the flow of qi and removing accumulation.

【Main indications】Intestinal obstruction of stasis type.

[Efficacy] 154 cases were treated and all were cured. Generally, symptoms begin to ease within 3 to 4 hours, significantly improve within 8 to 12 hours, and all symptoms and signs disappear within 12 to 24 hours.

2. Expelling Soup

[Source] Zhang Mengnong, "Clinical Medicine Essentials"

【Ingredients】 15g of black plum, 10g each of fried Sichuan pepper, fried coptis root, cinnamon bark, torreya grandis, fried radix sutchuenensis, thunder ball, white radix scutellariae, whole angelica, betel nut, and quinceanera, 15g of chinaberry root bark, 3 slices of ginger, 10g of phellodendron chinense, 9-30g of five-spice pills (500g each of cinnamomum officinale and raw cyperus rotundus, 60g of morning glory seeds, fry 1/2 of each and use 1/2 raw, grind into fine powder together, set aside, do not let out the wind) (take in 3 doses on an empty stomach with warm water)

[Usage] Decoction in water, 1 dose per day, 3 times a day.

【Function】Anti-insect, laxative, analgesic.

[Explanation of the prescription] Abdominal pain caused by ascaris is more common in children under 15 years old and the attacks can occur at any time. Adults also experience this condition, but the pain is more severe. This prescription is made by adding and subtracting ingredients from Wumei Pills and Huachong Pills. The prescription mainly uses the sourness of black plum; it is supplemented with the bitterness of coptis chinensis, phellodendron chinense, and neem root bark, the spiciness of Sichuan pepper, cinnamon, and ginger, and some effective anthelmintics such as torreya grandis, quisqualis nut, betel nut, lice, thunder ball, and mugwort; and the pungent and moistening angelica is used to moisten the intestines and promote bowel movements, because insects move when they get sweet, become calm when they get sour, lie dormant when they get bitter, and die when they get spiciness. In addition, the five-spirit fat in the five-spice pills can kill insects, eliminate accumulation and relieve pain, the angelica dahurica can promote qi and relieve pain, and the morning glory seeds can kill insects and promote bowel movements. The combination of these medicines has the effects of expelling parasites, promoting bowel movements and relieving pain. It is quite effective in clinical use.

[Indications] Abdominal pain caused by ascaris obstruction, with symptoms including paroxysmal severe pain in the abdomen, pale complexion, red lips, and a hard lump in the painful area, which is more painful when pressed. The pain will subside on its own after a while and the lump will disappear, but the pain will return soon. This condition may recur repeatedly and may not heal for several days.

[Efficacy] It has been used frequently in clinical practice with very good efficacy.

[Note] If the abdominal pain is severe, take Wuxiang Pills first and then this prescription. Or you can use 30 grams of neem root bark decoction and add 60 grams of brown sugar, which is also effective in expelling roundworms.

3. Agarwood Drink

[Source] Lee Kuan Yew, "Collection of Clinical Prescriptions"

[Ingredients] 6 grams of agarwood, 120 grams of honey, 120 grams of lard.

[Usage] First add 300 ml of water to the agarwood and boil it until 200 ml. Take it all at once first, then heat the honey and lard until boiling, and continue taking it after it cools down.

【Function】Reduces qi and relieves pain, nourishes and replenishes the middle, moisturizes the intestines and promotes bowel movements.

【Main indications】Senile intestinal obstruction (insufficient Qi in the middle).

[Addition and Subtraction] When the patient is vomiting severely, 0.25 mg of atropine can be injected into the bilateral Zusanli acupoints before taking the medicine. If you vomit the medicine, you can take it again.
