So disgusting! Observing filth can reveal our health status

When you wake up in the morning and rub your eyes, you can always feel some "dirty stuff" in the corners of your eyes. These things are commonly known as "eye boogers", also called "eye mucus" or "eye mucus", which are secretions in the eyes. Under normal circumstances, these secretions can protect the eyes by lubricating and cleaning them, but when there is a problem with the eyes, the secretions will become abnormal.

Normal eye boogers are composed of mucus secreted by the lacrimal glands, meibomian glands, and other substances, as well as desquamated ocular surface epithelial cells. Most of them are transparent or pale white, in small quantities, and will not cause eye discomfort, so they are easily ignored by people. According to experts, when eye secretions increase significantly or there are changes in color or other properties, it usually means that there is an eye disease and you must pay more attention to it.

Yellow purulent eye discharge: bacterial infection

Many people have had this personal experience: waking up in the morning and finding that their eyes are covered with a lot of thick white or yellow purulent eye mucus. At the same time, they feel burning, stinging, and a foreign body sensation in their eyes, and the whites of their eyes become very red. This is an obvious symptom of bacterial conjunctivitis. If a person's hands are contaminated with Bacillus, Catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, etc., rubbing the eyes will cause the eyeball to be infected and cause bacterial conjunctivitis. People with this eye disease will experience more obvious eye discomfort at night or when reading, and are prone to eye fatigue.

White translucent eye mucus: viral infection

When you wake up, if you find that there is more eye mucus in the corners of your eyes, which is white, translucent and sticky, and you look in the mirror and find that the whites of your eyes are also red, you may have viral conjunctivitis. Experts say that many people catch colds in the spring due to temperature changes. Most people who have swollen eyes after a cold suffer from acute viral conjunctivitis. This is because colds, coughs, and fevers are mostly caused by viruses invading the respiratory tract. If the virus invades the eyes at the same time, it can easily induce acute viral conjunctivitis.

In addition, some people who have not had a cold, if they have had viral conjunctivitis before, the virus will lurk in the local tissue of the eye. If the patient has an irregular lifestyle, stays up late, has a cold, has a fever, etc., the body's resistance is reduced and the virus will take advantage of the situation and enter, causing the eye disease to recur, and the recurrence may be more serious than the initial onset. Therefore, regular exercise and avoiding symptoms such as colds and getting angry are particularly important for preventing viral conjunctivitis.

Watery, transparent eye mucus: eye allergy

Some people feel fine, but suddenly feel itchy eyes. When they look in the mirror, they find that in addition to red eyes, there are transparent, thin watery secretions. Careful observation shows transparent bubbles on the conjunctiva of the eyelids, which indicates that they may have allergic conjunctivitis.

People with allergies and those who like to dye their hair and put on makeup are usually prone to allergic conjunctivitis. Experts explain that in daily life, external chemicals and diet may contain allergic substances, which can irritate the eyes. For example, chemical ingredients such as sweeteners, pigments, flavors, preservatives, thickeners added to some foods, and chemical substances in cosmetics such as hair dyes, shampoos, mascara, eyeliner, foundation, etc. can all induce allergic conjunctivitis.

For patients with allergic conjunctivitis, the first thing to do is to stay away from allergens and try to avoid eye irritation from chemicals when washing your hair and face. Use clean water when washing your face and cover your eyes with a towel when washing your hair. You should also pay attention to your diet. Spicy and irritating foods, seafood, etc. may also cause allergic reactions in the eyes.
