Soapberry (Scientific name: Sapindus mukorossi Gaertn.), also known as: wood soapberry (Compendium of Materia Medica), oil soapberry (Sichuan), bitter soapberry tree (Hainan), yellow eye tree, eye wave tree (Taiwan), oil Luo tree, hand-washing fruit, other local names: rubbing eyes, false longan, ghost-seeing sorrow, etc.

Sapindus mukorossi is a deciduous tree with spreading branches and alternate leaves; no stipules; petiole; panicle inflorescence, terminal and lateral; flowers are polygamous, corolla is light green with short claws; disc is cup-shaped; filaments have fine hairs, attached to the back of the anther; bisexual flowers have small stamens and filaments have soft hairs. The drupe is spherical and yellow or brown when ripe. The seeds are spherical and black, and the flowering period is June to July. The fruiting period is from September to October.

It is native to areas south of the Yangtze River in China, various parts of the Indochina Peninsula, India and Japan. The peel contains saponin, which can be used as a substitute for soap, and the wood can be used to make box boards and wooden combs. Roots, young leaves and branches, seeds: bitter, slightly spicy, cold. Slightly poisonous. Clears away heat and eliminates phlegm, eliminates accumulation and kills insects. Used for diphtheria, sore throat, milk moth, cough, sudden cough, food stagnation and worm accumulation; used externally for vaginal trichomoniasis. Seed kernel: spicy, neutral. Clinical Application:

For the treatment of trichomoniasis vaginitis: Take 1 jin of washed and peeled soapberries and add 1000 ml of water to boil into a concentrated liquid. Take 50-100 ml each time and dilute it with 1000 ml of warm water. Irrigate the vagina as usual, once a day, for 7-10 days as a course of treatment. At the same time, take Chinese medicine internally to clear away heat and dampness. All 10 cases were treated and tested negative for Trichomonas after one course of lavage. Five cases were followed up for 2 to 3 months without recurrence; one case recurred after 2 months and was still effectively treated.
