Jujube

【Functions and indications】Regulates qi and resolves phlegm, strengthens the spleen and eliminates dampness, nourishes the kidney and absorbs qi. Suitable for various asthma symptoms.

[Prescription composition] 30-60 grams of jujube, 30-60 grams of scutellaria baicalensis seeds, 30-60 grams of raw atractylodes, 9 grams of roasted Polygonum multiflorum, 12 grams (packet) of Shenqi Pills, and 9 grams of raw licorice.

[Usage and Dosage] Take 1 dose daily, decocted in water and taken warm twice a day, morning and evening.

[Additions and Subtractions] If the asthma is caused by cold, add 9 grams of ephedra and 10 to 30 ginkgo nuts; if the asthma is caused by heat, add 9 grams of ephedra and 30 grams of gypsum; if the tongue is red and the patient has yin deficiency, add 15 grams of Adenophora australis and 4.5 to 9 grams of donkey-hide gelatin to drink; if the cough is severe, add 9 grams of roasted Stemona buds, 9 grams of roasted Kuandong radix and 9 grams of roasted Aster tataricus; if the patient has difficulty in expectorating, add 9 grams of Renshi Guntan Pills (decoction in a bag or 3 grams can be swallowed).

[Dos and Don'ts] Avoid fishy, ​​greasy, spicy and other irritating foods.

[Case Verification] This prescription was used to treat 325 cases of various asthma. Results: 95 cases had stable therapeutic effects, 175 cases had unstable therapeutic effects, 55 cases had no effect, and the total effective rate was 83.1%.

Pinellia ternata

[Functions and indications] It is suitable for patients with phlegm in the throat, rapid breathing, chest tightness, cough, white and sticky sputum, dark tongue, slippery tongue coating, and thin and wiry pulse.

[Prescription composition] 6-15 grams of Pinellia, 10-30 grams of Salvia miltiorrhiza, 9-15 grams of Atractylodes macrocephala, 6-12 grams of roasted Ephedra, 6-10 grams of roasted Apricot kernel, 5-10 grams of Sichuan pepper, 6-18 grams of Lemongrass seed, and 6-12 grams of Perilla seed.

[Usage and Dosage] Take 1 dose per day, decocted in water twice, taken once in the morning and once in the evening. Take it for 7 consecutive days as a course of treatment. Start the next course of treatment 1 to 2 days after stopping the medication.

[Case Verification] This prescription was used to treat 50 patients with bronchial asthma, of whom 10 were cured, 22 were significantly effective, 13 were effective, and 5 were ineffective, with an overall effective rate of 90%.

Guben Zhixiao Decoction

【Functions and indications】Nourishes the kidney and absorbs Qi, reduces adverse effects and eliminates phlegm.

[Prescription composition] 6 grams of Gecko (without head and feet), 30 grams of Panax notoginseng, 30 grams of pumice (pre-boiled), 10 grams of light black beans, 10 grams of Pheretima, 10 grams of Aster, 3 grams of Gleditsia sinensis, 6 grams of processed Arisaema, 6 grams of Asarum, 6 grams of roasted Ephedra, 15 grams of stalactite (pre-boiled), 10 grams of Morus alba, 10 grams of Schisandra chinensis, 6 grams of Aquilaria wood, 6 grams of stir-fried Lepidium japonicus seed, 10 grams of Apricot, 10 grams of Scutellaria baicalensis, 20 grams of raw dragon bone (pre-boiled), and 6 grams of Licorice.

[Usage and Dosage] Take 1 dose daily, decocted in water 3 times and taken in 3 doses. 42 doses constitute a course of treatment.

【Case Verification】Lu, male, 40 years old, worker. I have had asthma since childhood and have been suffering from it for 35 years. Originally, the attacks occurred in winter and spring, but gradually there is no obvious seasonality. During an attack, exhalation is particularly difficult and the patient cannot lie flat. The shoulders are hunched, the wings of the nose, shoulders, neck and abdominal wall muscles all move with breathing, there is a wheezing sound in the throat, occasional choking and coughing, coughing up thick white sputum, distended jugular veins, barrel-shaped chest, and widespread wheezing and dry rales in both lungs on auscultation. Percussion is too clear and the lower border of the lungs is lowered. Chest X-ray showed thickening of the texture of both lungs, and routine blood examination showed slightly increased white blood cell count and eosinophil count.
