Facial nerve paralysis Chinese medicine prescription

Facial nerve paralysis Chinese medicine prescription

If people suffer from facial nerve paralysis, they will not be able to make facial expressions and will not feel any sensation on their face. Nerve paralysis will also cause the muscles to be unable to move. Over time, the muscles will gradually become loose and people's faces will gradually age. In fact, this disease can be treated with traditional Chinese medicine. Next, let’s take a look at the traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions for facial nerve paralysis.

That is facial nerve paralysis. Peripheral facial paralysis is the most common clinical condition.

1. Main symptoms: Sudden onset. Every time the patient wakes up from sleep, he or she will find that one side of the face is stiff, numb, and paralyzed, and the patient cannot frown, furrow his or her brows, show his or her teeth, or puff his or her cheeks. The corner of the mouth tilts toward the healthy side, tears flow from the forehead, forehead wrinkles disappear, and the nasolabial groove on the affected side becomes shallow or disappears. A small number of patients experience pain behind the ear, under the ear, and on the face at the onset. In severe cases, the taste of the front 2/3 of the tongue on the affected side may be reduced or lost, and hearing may be allergic.

2. Treatment: Focus on the Yangming meridians of the hands and feet, and use the Shaoyang and Taiyang meridians of the hands and feet as auxiliary methods, combining local acupoint selection with distant acupoint selection along the meridians. Select nearby acupoints and give shallow, horizontal or oblique punctures as appropriate.

3. Prescription: Fengchi, Yangbai, Zanzhu, Sibai, Dicang, Hesu, Taichong.

If the nasolabial groove is flat, add Yingxiang; if the philtrum is crooked, add Renzhong; if the facial labial groove is crooked, add Chengjiang; if the mastoid area is painful, add Yifeng.

Causes of facial nerve paralysis

There are many causes of facial nerve paralysis, which are clinically divided into central facial nerve paralysis and peripheral facial nerve paralysis.

Common causes are

① Infectious lesions: Infectious lesions are mostly caused by the activation of a virus that is dormant in the sensory ganglion of the facial nerve;

②Otogenic diseases. ③Autoimmune reaction;④;⑤Neurogenic;⑥Traumatic;

⑦ Poisoning, such as alcohol poisoning, long-term exposure to toxic substances;

⑧Metabolic disorders, such as vitamin deficiency; ⑨Vascular insufficiency;

⑩ Congenital facial nerve nuclear dysgenesis.

Clinical manifestations

Most patients often find that one side of their cheek is not moving properly and their mouth is crooked when they wash their face or rinse their mouth in the early morning. In patients with complete paralysis of the facial expression muscles on the affected side, forehead wrinkles disappear, palpebral fissures widen, nasolabial grooves become flat, and corners of the mouth droop. The affected side should not frown, knit brows, close eyes, puff out air, or purse lips. When puffing out cheeks and whistling, air leaks out because the lips on the affected side cannot close.

When eating, food residues often remain in the buccal space on the affected side, and saliva often flows down from that side. Because the lacrimal points are everted with the lower eyelid, the tears cannot be drained normally and overflow. Among them, the peripheral incidence rate is very high, and the most common is facial neuritis or Bell's palsy. Some patients may have taste disorders in the front 2/3 of the tongue, herpes in the external auditory canal, etc.
