What are the symptoms of lumbar disc herniation?

Lumbar disc herniation is relatively common in clinical practice. The occurrence of this symptom is related to many factors. Damage to the lumbar spine can also easily lead to lumbar disc herniation. The symptoms of lumbar disc herniation are quite obvious, the most typical of which is pain, so it is necessary to receive treatment and care as soon as possible.

1. Low back pain: According to clinical investigations, most patients have a history of low back pain or a history of repeated low back pain attacks. Because each patient's physical condition is different, the severity of low back pain is also different. Patients with mild symptoms can do appropriate exercise, while patients with severe symptoms need to stay in bed and rest.

2. Radiating pain in the lower limbs. Lumbar disc herniation often occurs in the 4-5 or 5 sacral intervertebral space at the root of the sciatic nerve. Therefore, patients with lumbar disc herniation often have sciatica that starts from the buttocks and gradually radiates to the posterior and lateral thigh, lateral calf, dorsum of the foot, lateral sole of the foot, and toes. Central protrusion often causes bilateral sciatica. When the intra-abdominal pressure increases due to coughing, sneezing, urination or defecation, there is an electric-like radiating pain in the lower limbs that worsens;

3. Abnormal sensation and numbness. Lumbar disc herniation causes local compression or pulling compression in the nerve root contact area, which causes ischemia and hypoxia in the nerve root fibers and blood vessels, resulting in leg pain and numbness, as well as chills and coldness in the lower limbs and weakening of the dorsalis pedis artery.

4. Muscle paralysis. If lumbar disc herniation compresses the nerves for a long time, it may cause nerve paralysis or muscle paralysis, and some may also cause intermittent claudication, scoliosis, and sideways curvature. These phenomena can easily bring a lot of inconvenience to patients, and some even lose their ability to move.
