After double eyelid surgery, which is better, hot compress or cold compress?

Double eyelids can make your eyes look bright, energetic, and beautiful. Therefore, many girls choose to have double eyelid surgery to get beautiful big eyes. However, postoperative care cannot be ignored, as improper care will affect the effectiveness of the operation.

1. Cold compress - cold compress within 3 days after surgery

Efficacy: The first 2 days after surgery are when the blood vessels in the wound are most likely to bleed. At this time, ice compresses can cause the blood vessels in the surgical area to contract when they are exposed to the cold, reducing bleeding and facilitating recovery.

There are two common cold compress methods:

1. Ice pack method: This is a dry cold compress method, which is particularly effective in the presence of ice. Put half a bag of crushed ice (or cold water) into a rubber ice bag, place the bag flat on the table, raise the bag opening, press the bag lightly with your hands to expel the gas in the bag, then tie the bag opening, wipe off the water on the surface, put on a cloth cover, and place it on the surgical site. The cold compress time is generally 20 to 30 minutes and can be applied multiple times a day.

2. Wet cold compress method: Use a basin to hold cold water (ice cubes can be put in winter, and freshly drawn well water is best in summer), soak two small towels or gauze in the basin, take them out and wring them until half dry, then apply to the affected area. Apply for 20 to 30 minutes each time, multiple times a day.

2. Hot compress - You can start hot compress 4 or 5 days after surgery

Efficacy: Hot compress can increase body surface temperature, stretch subcutaneous tissue, relax and dilate spasmodic capillaries, accelerate blood flow, and promote metabolism. It can also promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, promote muscle growth, reduce inflammation, reduce swelling, relieve pain, and soften scar tissue in the affected area.

There are two common methods of hot compress:

1. Hot water bag method: a type of dry heat compress method. First check whether the hot water bag is leaking, then fill the bag with hot water (preferably 60℃~70℃) to 2/3 of its capacity, expel the gas, tighten the bag opening, wipe off the water on the outside of the bag, put it in a cloth cover or wrap it in cloth for later use. Generally, hot compress should be applied for 20 to 30 minutes each time, 3 to 4 times a day. If you don’t have a hot water bottle, you can also use a thermos for hot compress.

2. Moist heat compress: The compress can be made of gauze or towel. First soak the compress in a basin of hot water, take it out and wring it until half dry, use the palm of your wrist to test whether the temperature is appropriate (it must not be hot before applying to the affected area), and then cover the compress with a cotton pad to prevent heat loss. 15 to 20 minutes each time, 3 to 4 times a day.

3. Precautions for double eyelid surgery:

1. If there are some blood scabs on the incision, it is recommended not to clean it yourself, so as to avoid poor healing of the incision and obvious scars due to improper handling. The doctor will handle it when removing the stitches.

2. Do not take painkillers casually during double eyelid surgery. There will be some pain in the incision on the day of double eyelid surgery, but it will gradually subside over time. Don't rush to take painkillers, because aspirin-like drugs will aggravate wound bleeding. You can take antibiotics orally for three days. Aspirin, warfarin and Chinese patent medicines for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis are prohibited.

3. Avoid smoking and drinking for one month, do not eat spicy and irritating foods, and try to eat less seafood. Avoid strenuous exercise within two weeks and do not rub your eyes hard within one month.

4. After the incision of the double eyelid surgery has completely healed, you can use some skin care cosmetics produced by regular manufacturers that moisturize, soften tissues and do not contain heavy metals.
