What causes itchy skin all over the body? what to do?

Many people experience itchy skin from time to time. For some, the symptoms disappear within a few hours, while for others, they last for several days. The causes of skin itching are complex and varied. Most patients do not understand pruritus and do not pay attention to it. When scratching does not itch anymore, they just leave it alone. So what is the cause of skin itching?

1. Allergic constitution: People with allergic constitution often become ill due to allergies when they come into contact with allergens. Common allergens in life include pollen, fungi, dust mites, animals, food, plants, drugs, etc.

2. Endocrine disorders: Some women often experience pruritus during pregnancy, which usually disappears after delivery. Menstrual disorders or ovarian diseases often cause vulvar pruritus. Skin itching in the elderly may be related to the decrease in sex hormone levels in the body.

3. Nervous system disorders: cerebral arteriosclerosis, tuberculosis dorsalis, and neurasthenia can also cause systemic or localized skin itching.

4. Visceral diseases: functional or organic diseases of the stomach, intestines, liver, kidneys and other internal organs, especially diabetes, uremia, liver disease, leukemia, lymphosarcoma, Hodgkin's disease, mycosis fungoides, and malignant lymphoma.

5. Skin metabolism disorders: skin atrophy, less sweat, lack of sebum nourishment, and skin blood circulation disorders induce itching, such as senile pruritus. The disease can occur throughout the year, with winter and spring being the peak seasons.

Understanding the causes of skin itching is very helpful for both treatment and prevention. Patients with itchy skin should never scratch excessively, as scratching the skin will only make the condition worse. Maintaining an optimistic attitude will have a good effect on the control and treatment of the disease.
