Gout diet tips, what to eat for gout?

Gout is a group of metabolic disorders caused by purine metabolism disorders and/or uric acid excretion disorders in the body. Hyperuricemia is an important sign of gout. So what should you pay attention to in your gout diet?

1. Eat protein in moderation

Excessive protein intake will increase purine synthesis, and protein metabolism will produce nitrogen-containing substances, which can cause blood pressure fluctuations. Milk and eggs do not contain nucleoprotein and contain very little purine, so they can be used as sources of protein. The structure of animal food should be improved, reducing the amount of pork with high fat content and increasing the amount of poultry and fish with high protein and low fat content.

2. Limit fat and high-cholesterol foods

A diet high in fat and cholesterol can easily lead to arteriosclerosis. High fat also hinders the liver and kidneys from excreting uric acid, causing an increase in uric acid. When cooking, use vegetable oil as the main oil, because vegetable oil contains vitamin E and more linoleic acid, which plays a certain role in preventing blood vessel rupture, such as rapeseed oil, peanut oil, olive oil, tea oil or sesame oil, corn oil, etc.

Eat less high-cholesterol foods, such as animal offal, various egg yolks, shrimp, fatty meat, squid, cuttlefish, butter, cream, etc.

It is recommended that the total daily fat intake be controlled at around 50 grams, including 20 grams of cooking oil. The cooking methods include steaming, boiling, stewing, and blanching, which use less oil.

3. Avoid being overweight or obese

Sweets are high in sugar, which can be converted into fat in the body, causing increased blood lipids and obesity. Therefore, it is necessary to control calorie intake and achieve ideal weight, which can not only prevent obesity but also reduce risk factors such as hypertension and gout caused by obesity. You can consume more high-fiber foods, such as brown rice, standard flour, corn, millet, etc., which is beneficial for preventing and treating gout. Eat less glucose, fructose and sucrose, including candy, desserts and sugary drinks.

4. Limit salt intake

Excessive salt intake can cause spasm of small arteries, increase blood pressure, and accelerate the process of renal arteriosclerosis. Appropriately reducing sodium salt intake can help lower blood pressure and reduce sodium and water retention in the body. The daily salt intake should be controlled at 2 to 3 grams. At the same time, you can consume special low-sodium salt. The amount of salt should also be reduced by the sodium contained in cooking soy sauce. 3 ml of soy sauce is equivalent to 1 gram of salt. Pickles, fermented bean curd, bacon, pickled products, clams, dried shrimps, preserved eggs, and vegetables such as Chinese spinach and water spinach are all high in sodium and should be eaten less or not.

5. Increase potassium-rich foods

Foods rich in potassium enter the human body, which can counteract the blood pressure increase and vascular damage caused by sodium, promote the dissolution of uric acid in urine, reduce uric acid precipitation, increase uric acid excretion, and prevent the formation of uric acid stones.

Foods rich in potassium include:

①Animal meat, including lean meat, fish, poultry, etc.

②Fruits, including bananas, kiwis, dates, peaches, pears, persimmons, pineapples, oranges, tangerines, etc.

③Vegetables, including potatoes, broccoli, celery, eggplant, mustard greens, garlic sprouts, kelp, seaweed, amaranth, rapeseed and cabbage, etc.
