What is the function of Sanjiaoshu point? What are the physical treatment methods for Sanjiaoshu acupoints?

The effects and benefits of massaging the Sanjiaoshu point include prolonging sexual desire, treating memory loss, fever, insomnia, nephritis, abdominal distension, acne, diabetes, spermatorrhea, etc. Where exactly is the Sanjiaoshu acupoint located in the human body? How to find it?

●Acupuncture point selection method

Sanjiaoshu point is located on the back, 1.5 inches lateral to the spinous process of the first lumbar vertebra.

Simple acupoint location: The fourth lumbar spinous process is at the level of the iliac crest. Count three spinous processes upwards to reach the first lumbar spinous process. Draw a vertical line from the inner side of the scapula downward. The distance between this line and the midline of the back is 3 inches. Half of this distance is 1.5 inches. The point is located at half of the intersection of this line and the horizontal line under the first lumbar spinous process.

●Indications

This point is the back-shu point of the triple burner, that is, the point on the back where the qi of the triple burner is infused into the back. Sanjiao Shu has the effects of promoting the circulation of vital energy, regulating the three burners, promoting diuresis and relieving stranguria, and strengthening the waist and kidneys. It is mainly used to treat abdominal distension, intestinal rumbling, indigestion, vomiting, diarrhea, dysentery, edema, and back pain. It is now mostly used to treat diseases such as urinary retention, gastritis, enteritis, nephritis, neurasthenia, etc.

Physical therapy

Method 1: Massage method: First find the reaction point near Sanjiaoshu, mainly the tender point, press this point with the thumb of one hand, and massage in a clockwise direction, usually for about 15 minutes, once in the morning and evening, and the acupoints on both sides can be performed at the same time. The Sanjiaoshu point, known as the "general point" of digestion, plays a role in connecting the upper and lower parts of the body, and mainly coordinates the spleen, stomach, liver and kidney functions of the human body. When the acupoint is blocked, digestive tract diseases such as abdominal distension, intestinal rumbling, vomiting, and diarrhea are likely to occur. By massaging this point, it can play a role in regulating qi. Massaging the Sanjiaoshu point is also very effective in improving urinary problems.

In addition, Sanjiaoshu point is also known as a representative acupuncture point for the treatment of diabetes. The pancreatic system of diabetic patients is damaged, and massaging the Sanjiaoshu point can assist in the treatment of diabetes. But we also remind everyone not to be superstitious that this method will take effect quickly. It requires long-term persistence to be effective.

Method 2: Moxibustion: Take a moxa stick and point the lit end of it to the Sanjiaoshu point for moxibustion, about 2 to 3 cm away from the skin. Generally, moxibustion is applied to each point for 10 to 15 minutes, until the skin turns red but without burning the skin. You can also perform moxibustion on this acupoint with ginger. Take a ginger slice the size of a one-yuan coin, about 3 to 5 mm thick, pierce several holes in the ginger slice with a toothpick, place a moxa cone on it, light it with fire and perform moxibustion, usually 5 to 7 times at a time. Through the dual effects of moxa leaves and acupoints, it can play a role in promoting diuresis and relieving stranguria, and regulating the Qi of the three burners. Ginger also has the function of dispersing cold evil. Applying ginger moxibustion to the Sanjiaoshu point can circulate the vital energy throughout the body, allowing the cold and dampness in the body to be discharged through urine or sweat. It is effective for diseases such as edema, intestinal rumbling, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Method three: Cupping method: Choose a glass jar of appropriate size, light a torch dipped in 95% alcohol, put it into the bottom of the jar, then take it out, and take advantage of the situation to place the jar on the Sanjiaoshu point. If cupping is not available, vacuum cupping can also be used.
