Can I do moxibustion at night?

Although moxibustion, a traditional Chinese medicine treatment method, can nourish the body very well, it also has certain time limitations. In winter, you should try to reduce the number of moxibustion sessions. Even if you need to do moxibustion, you should pay more attention to keeping warm, especially at night, otherwise it will cause some bad effects on yourself. Summer is the best time for moxibustion.

Chinese medicine experts point out that the best season for Chinese medicine moxibustion therapy is summer. Because we wear less clothes in the summer, it is very convenient to do moxibustion at home even if you don’t go to the hospital. It is not like in the winter when you can easily catch a cold if you take off your clothes to do moxibustion at home. Moreover, when the weather is hot, the human body is more sensitive to temperature and is not easily burned. The most important thing is that moxibustion in summer is in line with the theory of "treating winter diseases in summer" in traditional Chinese medicine.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that people with yang deficiency and qi deficiency are more suitable for acupuncture therapy. Most of the sick people have a yang deficiency constitution. Mugwort is warm in nature and is a purely yang substance. Moxibustion can warm the meridians, eliminate cold and dampness, and replenish the body's yang energy. Summer happens to be the time when the yang energy in nature is at its strongest. The yang and heat of the two combined have a stronger warming and tonic effect. Therefore, the tonic effect of moxibustion can be best achieved in the summer when the Yang energy of nature is at its peak.

The amount of moxibustion should be determined by considering the influence of factors such as time of day, geography, and climate. For example, in winter, the amount of moxibustion should be large to dispel cold and relieve numbness, and help yang and return to normal; in summer, less moxibustion or light moxibustion should be used to avoid causing internal heat and damaging yin. The north is cold and windy, so the amount of moxibustion should be large; the south is warm and the amount of moxibustion should be small.

People of different ages, physical constitutions and genders have different levels of yin and yang, qi and blood, and different tolerance to moxibustion. For elderly or weak people, the amount of moxibustion should be small, but it should be continued for a long time.

The number of young and middle-aged people increases as they get older.

As for the degree of moxibustion, after the application of moxibustion, you should feel warm and comfortable, which reaches deep into the body and lasts for a long time. If there is still residual warmth after stopping the moxibustion for a long time, it can be considered as the effect. The "Golden Mirror of Medical Ancestral" believes that: "For all diseases, moxibustion must be sufficient in fire and qi before it can be cured. However, the skin and flesh of the head and limbs are shallow. If moxibustion is applied at the same time, it may cause muscle, bone, qi and blood to be difficult to bear. Moxibustion must be applied on different days, or every other day. The moxa cone should be small and the number of moxibustions should be small. If a disease must be moxibustioned at the Juque and Jiuwei points, it must not be applied more than three or five times.

The skin and flesh below the back and waist are thick, so the moxa cones should be large and the number of cones should be large so that the fire energy can reach it and the chronic cold disease can be cured. "Therefore, no matter which acupoint is treated with moxibustion, it must be "sufficient" and the heat must be able to penetrate deep into the body and reach the affected area directly. In order to prevent the pain during moxibustion, it is suggested that moxibustion can be performed every other day, and the size and number of moxa cones should be determined according to the severity of the disease and the location of the acupoints.
