What to do if your finger is pinched and bruised

What to do if your finger is pinched and bruised

If you are not careful in life, your fingers may be pinched, which often causes congestion. When this happens, don't panic first. You can use cold compresses or ice compresses to reduce swelling and relieve pain. At this time, you must clean the wound in time. You can use some saline, alcohol or iodine to disinfect, and then bandage it. If the damage to the nail is serious, you can pull out the nail. Of course, you must go to the hospital.

What to do if your finger is pinched and bruised

1. Keep calm and don’t panic

When your fingers are squeezed, you will suddenly feel frightened and in unbearable pain, but you must remain calm, endure the pain, and observe the degree of squeezing of your fingers yourself or ask someone around you to see if the finger movement is restricted, whether there is bleeding, wounds, etc. If these conditions occur, go to the hospital immediately, take an X-ray to see if there are any fractures, and get a tetanus shot; if there is no bleeding or wounds, there is no need to go to the hospital.

2. Natural metabolism of nails

If the nail is squeezed and turns black, and there is no wound, redness, swelling, heat or pain, you can ignore it. After a period of time, new nails will grow out and naturally replace the black nails. This process takes about 2-3 months. During this time, the injured finger should be kept away from water as much as possible, especially unclean water.

3. Apply ice immediately

If redness, swelling, heat and pain appear after the fingers are squeezed, the nails may turn black the next day, so ice compresses should be applied immediately within 24 hours. You can use towels or other frozen items that have been frozen in the refrigerator, or you can buy ice packs at the pharmacy for local ice compresses and replace them regularly. This can not only relieve pain, but also reduce exudation and reduce swelling.

4. Clean and disinfect the wound surface

If there is a wound after the finger is squeezed, the wound must be cleaned. If you have injectable saline at home, you can rinse the wound directly. You can also brew table salt with warm water and let it cool, then rinse the wound directly, and then apply some yellow medicine or iodine. However, the wound must be disinfected every day until it heals.

5. Local hot compress therapy

If the nails are squeezed and turned black, you can apply local hot compresses for more than 24 hours. You can use a hot towel or hot water bottle and change them regularly. You can also perform local physical therapy twice a day, each time for 20-30 minutes. These methods help increase local blood circulation, relieve pain, help absorb exudate, and reduce swelling.

6. Oral anti-inflammatory and blood-activating and blood-stasis-removing drugs

If your nails are clipped and turn black, and you continue to feel pain and there is bleeding and a throbbing sensation under the nails, you can take some anti-inflammatory drugs orally. You can also take drugs that have the effect of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. This can relieve the symptoms and is also helpful for the absorption of blood stasis.

7. Go to the hospital for general surgery to remove the nail

If the nails are clipped and turn black, and continuous systemic and local anti-inflammatory treatments still cannot relieve the redness, swelling, heat and pain, and there is a local throbbing sensation and general discomfort, or even fever, it proves that there is a systemic infection. At this time, you must go to the general surgery department of the hospital to test the blood routine. If the white blood cell count is not high, you can remove the nail; if the white blood cell count is high, you must take anti-inflammatory measures first and then remove the nail.
