What to do if your eyes get dry when wearing contact lenses

Although contact lenses are much more convenient than frame glasses, long-term wearing of contact lenses can easily lead to dry eyes and even bacterial eye infections. As for what to do if dry eyes are caused by wearing contact lenses, you can use some eye drops to moisten your eyes in the early stages.

1. Eye drops

If your eyes are dry occasionally, you can use some contact lens-specific eye drops appropriately. There are various brands. Don't wait until your eyes become dry again to apply the drops. You should start applying the drops every 30 minutes.

2. Diet therapy

The dietary treatment for dry eyes is to eat foods containing carotene, such as carrots, regularly. If you don’t like carrots, you can go to the store to buy carotene/carrot juice to drink, which can basically relieve dry eyes!

3. Rest

If dry eyes are caused by working in an air-conditioned room and facing the computer for a long time, you can choose contact lenses with lower water content. Generally speaking, 38-42% is optimal. Also, you need to rest your eyes every hour.

4. Lens cleaning

After taking off the lenses every day, you must thoroughly clean and disinfect them for maintenance. Sediment on the lenses will affect the lubricity of the lenses and easily irritate the eyes. The contact lens care solution must be replaced every day. It is best not to wear them when swimming as it can easily cause bacterial infection.

5. Pay attention to the time you wear glasses

Do not wear contact lenses for a long time. They must be taken off when sleeping. They should not be worn for more than six hours a day. If they are worn for too long, the eyes will easily lack oxygen and cause dryness. Do not face the computer for a long time when wearing contact lenses, because facing the computer for a long time will reduce the number of times you blink, which will cause dry eyes.
