What causes anal itching?

Anal itching usually occurs in paroxysms, especially at night. When the itching is severe, patients often find it difficult to bear. They can't help scratching constantly, which will leave creases. In severe cases, it can also cause the skin to lose elasticity and luster and develop pigmentation.

1. What causes anal itching?

1. Psychological factors: Anal itching can also be induced by panic, depression, abnormal mental excitement or neurasthenia.

2. Allergic reaction: Some people may have allergic reactions after eating fish, shrimp, eggs, crab meat, etc.; some people may have allergic reactions due to drinking alcohol, eating spicy foods such as peppers, mustard, spices, etc. These foods can cause anal itching.

3. Disease factors: such as diabetes, jaundice, diarrhea, constipation, rheumatism and gout, blood diseases, malignant tumors, uremia, and diabetes insipidus. Cirrhosis of the liver, menopause in women and men, etc. can all be complicated by anal pruritus.

2. Symptoms of anal itching

1. Feeling of incomplete defecation: There are abundant nerve fibers in the anal canal, including both unmyelinated nerve fibers and myelinated nerve fibers, as well as many ganglia, forming an accessory sensory organ. Therefore, in the early stages of anal sinusitis and anal papillitis, patients often have a feeling of incomplete defecation, accompanied by a feeling of foreign objects embedded in the anus and a feeling of falling.

2. Itching: Although the anal itching caused by anal sinusitis is not as typical as anal pruritus, it is difficult to stop the itching by scratching. The itching is caused by the stimulation of inflammatory exudates on the anus, and the patient's anus is often moister than normal people.

3. Reflex pain: Anal sinusitis often causes reflex pain, which can be reflected to the urogenital area through the internal pudendal nerve and the third and fourth sacral nerves, to the sacrum and coccyx through the iliohypogastric nerve and anococcygeal nerve, or to the lower limbs through the sciatic nerve. It can also cause digestive symptoms such as indigestion, excessive flatulence or constipation. Anal sinusitis can affect the health of the entire body and is called rectal neurasthenia, which may be the result of irritation of the internal organs and spinal nerves.
