What causes Meniere's vertigo?

Meniere's vertigo is a very strange disease. Patients will suddenly show non-inflammatory labyrinthine lesions, as well as adverse reactions such as dizziness, deafness, and tinnitus. The main cause is inextricably linked to endocrine disorders, vitamin deficiency, and psychoneurological factors.

1. Causes

Meniere's syndrome is a sudden onset of non-inflammatory labyrinthine disease with symptoms such as vertigo, deafness, tinnitus and sometimes a feeling of fullness in the affected ear. It usually occurs in one ear and the cause is unknown. There is no significant difference in the incidence between men and women. Most patients are young and middle-aged people, and it is rare for people over 60 years old to develop the disease. In recent years, there have also been reports of cases in children. The course of the disease is usually several days or more than a week. There are many theories about the cause of the disease, and there is no consensus yet. For example, allergic reactions, endocrine disorders, vitamin deficiency, and psychoneurological factors can cause autonomic dysfunction, resulting in vascular and nerve dysfunction, increased capillary permeability, leading to water accumulation in the membranous labyrinth, swelling of the cochlear duct and saccule, and stimulating the cochlear and vestibular receptors, causing a series of clinical symptoms such as tinnitus, deafness, and vertigo. The symptoms of this disease can be relieved without treatment. Although it can recur with irregular intervals between attacks, there are also patients who will not have another attack after a single one.

2. Common symptoms

1. Dizziness

Severe rotational vertigo often occurs suddenly without any warning, often waking the patient from sleep or occurring in the morning. The patient reported that the objects around him rotated around him, and when he closed his eyes he felt that he was rotating in space. Patients often adopt a forced posture and dare not move, as movement can aggravate the symptoms of vertigo. The patient is conscious during the attack. During an attack, there are symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, cold sweats, pale face and low blood pressure. After a few hours or days, the vertigo symptoms gradually disappear.

2. Hearing impairment is caused by fluctuating sensorineural hearing loss. After the early vertigo symptoms are relieved, the hearing can be largely or completely restored. However, repeated attacks may lead to complete deafness. Some patients are also hypersensitive to high-pitched sounds.

3. Tinnitus is a possible precursor to the onset of symptoms. Tinnitus is a high-pitched sound that may vary in severity. Before an attack, the patient's tinnitus may worsen, and when the attack stops, the tinnitus may gradually disappear.

4. A feeling of stuffiness in the head and ear on the same side. Most patients have this symptom, or a feeling of heaviness in the head and lightness in the feet.
