The impact of Toxoplasma on the fetus can cause fetal death

Generally speaking, if a normal person is infected with Toxoplasma, it will not cause much impact on the body. However, if a pregnant woman is infected with Toxoplasma, it will cause fatal harm to the fetus. Toxoplasma can cause intrauterine fetal death, and even if the fetus is born by chance, the intelligence of the fetus will be lower.

1. Even if the mother has mild or no symptoms when infected with Toxoplasma gondii, the impact on the fetus is fatal. Compared with pregnant women who are not infected with Toxoplasma gondii, the incidence of fetal malformations in pregnant women infected with Toxoplasma gondii is 4.48 times higher and the incidence of congenital mental retardation is 5.2 times higher.

2. If infected in early pregnancy , only 15% of newborns will have congenital infection because Toxoplasma is difficult to pass through the placenta. However, since the fetus has poor resistance at this time, it is basically fatal, and is often manifested as miscarriage or embryonic development cessation.

3. If a pregnant woman is infected with Toxoplasma gondii during the second trimester , about 25% of newborns will be infected, which often manifests as miscarriage in the late pregnancy or intrauterine fetal death, and the surviving fetuses are often accompanied by congenital defects.

4. If a pregnant woman is infected with Toxoplasma gondii in late pregnancy , the risk of fetal involvement can reach 60%, manifested as intrauterine fetal death or premature birth. The vast majority of fetuses that survive will have serious neurological and other defects.

5. Various malformations occur after the fetus is infected with Toxoplasma gondii in utero , the most common of which are in the nervous system and eyes. In the nervous system, anencephaly, hydrocephalus, intracranial calcification, and microcephaly can be seen.

Deformity, skull absence, mental retardation, meningoencephalitis, epilepsy and mental abnormalities; retinochoroiditis, anophthalmia, and microphthalmia can be seen in the eyes. In addition, more than 30 deformities have been reported, including spina bifida, cleft lip or palate, earlessness, armlessness, footlessness, etc.
