Osteoporosis dietary taboos, this thing must not be eaten

Although we can alleviate the condition of osteoporosis through diet therapy, patients with osteoporosis also have many dietary taboos. In particular, they should pay attention to not eating too salty food or eating too much sugar.

Don’t eat too much salt: Eating too much salt will increase calcium loss and aggravate the symptoms of osteoporosis. The experiment found that if the daily salt intake was 0.5 grams, the amount of calcium in the urine remained unchanged. If it was increased to 5 grams, the amount of calcium in the urine increased significantly.

Don’t eat too much sugar: Eating too much sugar can affect the absorption of calcium and indirectly lead to osteoporosis.

Be sure to consume protein in moderation, but not too much: excessive protein intake will cause calcium loss. According to experiments, if women's daily protein intake is increased by 50%, that is, to 98 grams of protein per day, the loss of calcium will increase by 26 grams per day.

It is not advisable to drink coffee: People who are addicted to coffee are more likely to lose calcium than those who do not drink coffee. The experiment found that among a group of postmenopausal women with osteoporosis, 31% drank more than 4 cups of coffee a day, while only 19% of the other group with normal bone mass drank more than 4 cups of coffee a day.

Do not drink strong tea for a long time: the caffeine in tea can significantly inhibit the absorption of calcium in the digestive tract and promote urinary calcium excretion, causing bone calcium loss, and inducing osteoporosis over time.

It is not advisable to use various diuretics , anti-epileptic drugs, parathyroid hormone, and cortisone: these drugs can directly or indirectly affect the activation of vitamin D, accelerate the excretion of calcium salts, and hinder the precipitation of calcium salts in the bones. Therefore, patients with osteoporosis must strictly prohibit the use of the above drugs. If it is needed for other diseases, it must be taken under the guidance of a doctor.
