Symptoms of paronychia, have you been infected?

Paronychia can also be considered a skin disease. Most patients with paronychia will experience redness, swelling and pain in the skin. If the inflammation is severe, it may even extend to the nail groove on the other side and may also cause systemic symptoms such as fever.

1. It often occurs first under the skin of one side of the nail groove , manifested as redness, swelling and pain on the affected side of the skin, usually without systemic infection symptoms. If the lesion progresses, pus will form in the lesion, there will be fluctuations in the red and swollen area, and white spots will appear, but it is not easy to rupture and discharge pus.

2. Inflammation may also occur at the root of the nail or extend to the nail groove on the other side. When the infection worsens, there may be systemic symptoms such as increased pain and fever. Since the nails hinder the discharge of pus, the infection can spread deep into the nail layer and form dactylitis.

3. The proximal end of the nail groove on one or both sides of the nail becomes red, swollen, and painful, followed by the appearance of pus spots, and granulation tissue can be seen after the pus discharge.

4. When the infection spreads to the nail bed , local pus accumulation can cause the entire nail to float and fall off.

5. The clinical features are inflammation of the proximal nail fold , manifested as painful erythema, edema, loss of the nail cuticle, and damage to the nail bed resulting in abnormalities of the nail plate surface. Chronic course, overlapping with recurrent self-limited exacerbations.
