Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder, a Common Mental Illness

Bipolar disorder is also known as manic depression. People with this disease are always abnormally excited or depressed. It is a mental disorder with intermittent attacks. Severe patients may also have suicidal thoughts. Family members should pay more attention to the patients' hearts.

1. Symptoms of the depressive phase of bipolar disorder:

Prolonged sadness or unexplained crying

Noticeable changes in appetite and sleep

Irritability, worry, restlessness, or anxiety

Pessimism or indifference

Loss of energy or persistent sleepiness

Feeling guilty and worthless

Inability to concentrate or make decisions

Loss of interest in activities that used to interest you or a reluctance to participate in social activities

Unexplained body pain

Recurrent suicidal thoughts

Symptoms of manic phase of bipolar disorder:

High spirits, excessive optimism and self-confidence

Reduce the need for sleep and feel less tired

Delusion of grandiosity, inflated sense of self

Increased physical and mental activity

Talking fast, thinking quickly and impulsively

Poor judgment and easily distracted

Reckless behavior

In severe cases, hallucinations may occur

Hypomania:

"I feel happy and everything is wonderful. My mind is clear and my thinking is fast. All my shyness is gone. I feel relaxed and confident. People and things that used to be boring are interesting now."

Mania: "My thoughts are racing faster and faster, so fast that I can't control them. Funny things start to go crazy, and my friends start to get scared of me...I get angry easily, but I'm also scared, and I can't control myself."
