Treatment of bipolar disorder, timely hospitalization

Treatment of bipolar disorder, timely hospitalization

Patients with bipolar disorder are usually particularly depressed and may even engage in suicidal behavior. Many patients need to be hospitalized and isolated. Family members should also pay more attention to the patients. The living environment should be quiet and safe, and personal hygiene should also be maintained.

1. Treatment methods

⒈The vast majority of patients require hospitalization, and those with severe conditions require compulsory hospitalization. Isolate the patient from other people, keep him/her quiet, ensure adequate food intake, and pay attention to water and electrolyte balance. The use of antipsychotic drugs chlorpromazine, haloperidol, and clozapine can help quickly control excitement. Lithium salts have a good therapeutic effect on manic episodes and can prevent recurrences, 1 to 2 g each time, 2 to 3 times a day, for 4 weeks. It should not be used in combination with haloperidol.

⒉ Treatment with carbamazepine and lithium.

⒊ Sodium valproate is used when lithium salts and carbamazepine are ineffective, 600-1200 mg per day.

⒋ This method is suitable for electric shock therapy for those who are severely excited and agitated and who urgently need to control their condition.

⒌ For patients who have recurrent episodes after more than 2 maintenance treatments, long-term medication should be used in principle. The maintenance dose of lithium salt is 2/3 to 1/2 of the original treatment dose. 0.75-1.0g per day.

2. What should family members pay attention to?

1. Create a simple and safe environment. Put away scissors and ashtrays to prevent them from being used as weapons.

2. Assist in paying attention to nutritional intake. Because it consumes a lot of physical energy, you need to eat small meals frequently to replenish the necessary nutrients.

3. Pay attention to personal hygiene. Due to lack of concentration, it is easy to neglect washing, bathing and changing clothes, so regular reminders are required.

3. What are the signs of depression?

When the patient shows depression and is indifferent to things around him, indulges in not saying a word, not doing anything, moves less and slower, has poor appetite, and has a sleep pattern of waking up easily or waking up early, you should pay attention.
