Can spastic paraplegia be treated? Four methods are effective in treatment

We can treat spastic paraplegia. The main treatment methods include etiology treatment, exercise therapy, psychotherapy and nursing treatment. If necessary, you can choose the most appropriate treatment method according to your actual situation.

1. Treatment of the cause. Starting from the cause of paraplegia is medically called etiological treatment. The common factors causing paraplegia are trauma and internal injuries. Trauma refers to accidental injury that causes damage to the spinal nerves; internal injuries mainly include spinal cord inflammation, spinal tuberculosis, spinal cord tumors, severe intervertebral disc herniation, etc. The principles and methods of treatment are mainly to relieve compression and eliminate the causes of spinal cord injury. For example, spinal fractures, compression, and dislocation must be corrected in a timely manner.

2. Exercise therapy. The exercise principle for paraplegic patients is that being able to sit is better than lying down, being able to stand is better than sitting, and being able to walk is better than standing. Pay attention to functional recovery exercises, exercise the paraplegic parts, and also pay attention to exercises of the healthy limbs. Exercise can promote functional recovery of paraplegic parts, enhance physical fitness and constitution, reduce complications, increase blood circulation in the affected area, and facilitate recovery.

3. Psychotherapy: Listen patiently to what the patient says, understand the extent of his or her psychological disorder, and respect, care for and be considerate of the patient. Daily care: Take care of the patient's daily life such as washing, eating, urination and defecation, and gradually train the patient's ability to take care of himself. Patients are encouraged to eat nutritious and easily digestible foods, drink plenty of water, and eat more vegetables and fruits.

4. Nursing treatment: Paraplegic patients are very likely to develop bedsores due to long-term pressure on certain parts of the body and poor blood circulation. Therefore, early prevention and treatment are necessary, keep the sheets flat and clean, use air rings on bony protrusions, turn over more often, change body position every 2 hours, and massage with 50% ethanol. Passive movement of paralyzed limbs, massage, acupuncture, physical therapy, etc. promote functional recovery. Prevent muscle atrophy, joint stiffness, bone decalcification, etc. Pay attention to keeping the limbs in functional position to prevent deformities. Three months after traumatic paraplegia, the patient can sit up and start moving around on crutches.
