What causes myocardial ischemia?

Myocardial ischemia poses a great threat to health. It is a common symptom of heart disease and can have a great impact on the blood supply to the heart. Today we will talk in detail about what causes ischemia, which will be helpful for you to prevent these diseases.

Clinical studies have shown that the main and most common cause of myocardial ischemia is coronary artery stenosis. The main cause of coronary artery stenosis is atherosclerosis: its characteristic is that the lesions of the affected arteries start from the intima, and there are multiple lesions coexisting, including local lipid accumulation, fibrous tissue hyperplasia and local plaque formation, and secondary lesions include intra-plaque hemorrhage, plaque rupture and local thrombosis. The cause of atherosclerosis has not yet been fully elucidated, but a large number of studies have shown that it is a multi-causal disease, that is, it is caused by the combined action of multiple factors, which are called risk factors.

Three main causes of myocardial ischemia

1. Coronary artery sclerosis. Hardening of the aorta causes a decrease in blood flow, which increases the burden of blood flow to the heart, making it prone to ischemia, hypoxia, and energy deficiency, ultimately affecting the heart's blood absorption function. If the myocardium does not receive enough blood, very dangerous cardiogenic shock will occur. Acute myocardial infarction is often associated with this condition.

2. Left ventricular failure. , increased preload is an important physiological and pathological change of left ventricular failure, reduced cardiac output, valvular heart disease, changes in blood viscosity, and increased cardiac oxygen demand can cause left ventricular failure and lead to reduced blood supply to the heart. Diseases of the myocardium itself can also reduce blood supply to the heart.

3. Lower blood pressure. A reduction in blood pressure can also impair diastolic function. The combination of poor contraction and poor relaxation can easily lead to low ventricular filling pressure and cause pulmonary congestion. Insufficient effective blood volume is caused by complex medication or various reasons. Myocardial ischemia causes the myocardium to stop contracting, and also causes metabolic disorders and abnormal myocardial electrical activity.
