What to do if you have anal pain? Check-up and treatment are the most important

If you experience anal pain, you should get checked out promptly. There are many causes, and the cause should be determined based on the duration of the pain. Common causes include anal fissures, hemorrhoids, constipation, and stimulation from spicy food, so the cause must be identified and treated promptly.

1. Anal pain examination

1. Duration of pain: Pain occurs simultaneously with defecation, and pain is relieved after defecation. It is often seen in anal fissure, anal stenosis, anal sinusitis, mixed hemorrhoid inflammation and edema, etc. Improper surgery on the rectum and anus can cause pain when passing stool.

2. Persistent pain: It is common in perianal abscesses, thrombosed external hemorrhoids, anal canal cancer, purulent infection after anorectal surgery, and anal trauma with foreign objects embedded in the anus.

3. Swelling and pain: It is often seen when foreign objects are embedded in the anus and cannot be discharged, or when there is a submucosal abscess in the rectum.

4. Paroxysmal pain: seen in proctitis, neurosis, and pudendal nerve syndrome.

5. Laboratory examination: It is necessary to summarize and analyze the objective data obtained from the medical history and physical examination, propose several possible diagnoses, and then further consider which actual laboratory examinations to perform to confirm the diagnosis. Such as: rectal examination, colonoscopy, etc.

2. Causes

1. Mental factors: mostly caused by mental stress, such as anorectal neurosis, pudendal nerve syndrome, sciatica and coccygeal neuralgia reflecting to the anus and causing anal pain;

2. Foreign bodies and bad diet stimulation: Trauma, foreign bodies in the rectum, spicy food and alcoholism can all stimulate the anus and cause pain;

3. Anorectal infection: anorectal abscess, anal sinusitis, anal papillitis, etc. These diseases can also cause anal pain;

4. Anal diseases: such as incarcerated hemorrhoids, inflammatory external hemorrhoids, thrombosed external hemorrhoids, anal fissures, anal fistulas, etc., can all cause anal pain;

5. Intestinal infection or diarrhea, constipation: Intestinal infection can cause inflammation to irritate the anus. Diarrhea and constipation can cause mechanical stimulation of the anus when feces pass through the anus, thus causing anal pain.
