How long does it take to survive small cell lung cancer?

Small cell lung cancer is also a small part of lung cancer, but it can cause great harm to the body. The survival period of small cell lung cancer depends on the patient's physical condition and how the disease is controlled. Some patients with better treatment effects will have a relatively longer survival period.

Disease Prognosis

The average survival (MS) of limited-stage disease is 12-20 months, and the 5-year survival rate (SR) is 10-20%; the average survival (SR) of extensive-stage disease is 7-12 months, and the 5-year SR is less than 2%.

Disease prevention

The prevention of lung cancer is mainly divided into three levels of prevention, and prevention is better than treatment.

Primary prevention is aimed at healthy people and mainly includes not smoking and staying away from secondhand smoke pollution. Try to avoid outdoor air pollution and kitchen fumes. Choose environmentally friendly decoration materials. Eat a balanced diet and eat more grains, vegetables and fruits. Maintain an optimistic and positive attitude towards life and improve psychological adaptability.

Secondary prevention, early diagnosis and early treatment are aimed at high-risk groups , mainly long-term smokers over 40 years old, those who have smoked for more than 20 years, those who started smoking under 20 years old and smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day, those who are frequently exposed to coal smoke, coal tar and oil smoke, those who are exposed to excessive radiation (miners, etc.), those with chronic cough, blood in sputum and those with a family history of lung cancer. It is best for high-risk groups to have regular comprehensive physical examinations every year, and undergo CT scans if conditions permit. If you experience symptoms such as irritating cough, bloody sputum, hemoptysis, etc., you should seek medical attention immediately.

The tertiary prevention is rehabilitation prevention . Lung cancer patients should follow the doctor's advice and go to the hospital for regular checkups. Diet care: Patients undergoing chemotherapy should eat a light diet and avoid fatty, indigestible and fried foods. Eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, eat small meals frequently, combine foods properly, diversify your diet, and have a balanced diet. During the intervals between radiotherapy and chemotherapy, be careful to avoid fatigue, get enough rest, maintain a regular schedule, and avoid infection.
