What are the effects and functions of Bletilla striata powder?

Many people may ask about the effects and functions of white hyacinth powder. It can be manifested in many aspects, such as helping us to nourish the lungs, and it has a good effect in stopping bleeding and reducing swelling. It can be used to treat sores, bleeding, ulcers, and chapped hands and feet.

1. The lung-tonifying effect of Bletilla striata can be first seen in the record of Yijianzhi by Hong Mai, a writer of the Southern Song Dynasty. It is recorded that at that time there was a prisoner in Taizhou who had a lung injury and often coughed up blood. The jailer ground white hyacinth into powder and fed the prisoner with rice soup, and he recovered within a few weeks. This recipe of Bletilla striata for nourishing the lungs and stopping bleeding was later included in the Compendium of Materia Medica written by Li Shizhen.

2. The main medicinal material of Bletilla striata is the tuber, and the best ones are those with thick rhizomes, large and solid roots, and no hairy roots. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that Bletilla striata tastes bitter, sweet and astringent, is slightly cold in nature, and enters the lung meridian. It has the function of stopping bleeding and reducing swelling, and can treat bleeding sores, carbuncle swelling, ulcers, and chapped hands and feet. "Weinan Materia Medica" says that it "treats pain and damage to lung qi, replenishes lung deficiency, stops cough, eliminates lung rash and hemoptysis, and astringes lung qi."

3. Fresh Bletilla striata tubers contain 14.6% water, 30.48% starch, 1.5% glucose, as well as volatile oil, mucus, Bletilla striata mannan, etc. The hemostatic effect of Bletilla striata is related to the colloidal components it contains, which can significantly shorten the coagulation time and accelerate the sedimentation rate of red blood cells, causing red blood cells to agglutinate and form artificial thrombus, thereby repairing vascular defects and achieving the hemostatic effect.

4. Bletilla striata has anti-ulcer effects and can treat gastric and duodenal ulcers. Because Bletilla striata is highly abrasive, it can form a gelatinous film in the stomach, thereby promoting the healing of ulcers. Moreover, the beneficial ingredients in Bletilla striata have an antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus and Streptococcus, and can form a protective film locally to control and prevent stomach infections.
