Do you know the best treatment for mastitis?

In real life, mastitis is a common disease among women. There are many causes of mastitis, which are also divided into many types. It mainly occurs in women who are breastfeeding. Postpartum women are more likely to develop mastitis. Mastitis should be treated in time and breastfeeding should be stopped to avoid harming the baby.

Treatment of mastitis

Promotes emulsion drainage

The main cause of mastitis is the accumulation of milk and the poor drainage. Therefore, whether in the early or late stages of mastitis, promoting the smooth drainage of milk should be the top priority. In the early stages when no abscess is formed, you can breastfeed your child and try to let the child suck out all the milk. If there is abscess or high fever, stop breastfeeding your baby. You can choose to manually express or use a breast pump to drain the milk.

Medication

In terms of medication selection, Western medicine mainly treats anti-inflammatory and anti-infection, which can be taken orally or injected. The use of Western medicine may affect the quality of breast milk, so it will affect breastfeeding during the medication period. In traditional Chinese medicine, the main focus is on soothing the liver, clearing away heat, resolving stagnation and promoting lactation. Traditional Chinese medicine can be divided into two types: oral and external. Both treatment methods have basically no effect on the lotion and are ideal treatment methods.

Adjunctive therapy

Pay attention to breast hygiene at ordinary times to reduce bacterial infection. Apply some hot compresses and a hot towel (not too hot) to the lower part of the breast to reduce inflammation and relieve pain. For local massage, use your hands or the back of a wooden comb to apply pressure along the direction of the milk ducts. In terms of diet, it is advisable to eat light, lactogenic, heat-clearing and stagnation-dispersing foods, and avoid greasy, spicy and hot foods.

Causes

Milk stasis is the prelude and basis of bacterial infection. If there is too much milk and milk discharge is not smooth, the milk may accumulate and form lumps. Stagnant milk is the best breeding ground for bacteria. Milk stasis is mostly caused by insufficient breastfeeding experience or improper methods. The pathogenic bacteria are mostly Staphylococcus aureus, and a few are hemolytic Streptococci. They invade the mammary gland through damaged nipple skin or milk ducts, multiply in large numbers, and destroy the mammary gland tissue, forming multilocular abscesses. When the nipple is underdeveloped, inverted, inverted or split, the mammary ducts are blocked from draining milk, causing congestion. Breastfeeding for too long, or the child falling asleep with the breast in his mouth, can cause erosion on the nipple surface or the child bites the nipple, allowing bacteria to enter through the hole; or due to a cold or pharyngitis, bacteria may travel through the blood into the stagnant milk and multiply in large numbers, causing suppuration.

Postpartum women are weak in physical condition and have reduced immunity. They are wrapped too tightly, sweat a lot, and are not cleaned enough, resulting in local moisture in the breasts, which also provide a breeding ground for the growth and reproduction of bacteria. Trauma to the breasts such as squeezing and impact during lactation can also easily induce mastitis.
