Can otitis media cause deafness? How to treat it with traditional Chinese medicine

Otitis media is a common ear disease. Generally speaking, people's concern about ear diseases is mostly about whether they will induce deafness. So, can otitis media cause deafness?

Can otitis media cause deafness?

Yes. Hearing loss after otitis media is mostly due to perforation of the tympanic membrane, pus and granulation tissue in the tympanic cavity, destruction of the ossicular chain, and invasion of the inner ear. It is recommended to visit an otolaryngologist for specialist examination, hearing test and high-resolution CT of the temporal bone. Depending on the specific circumstances of the disease, tympanoplasty and ossicular chain reconstruction may be performed if necessary.

How does TCM treat otitis media?

1. Prescription self-treatment

(1) Decoction of 30 grams of honeysuckle vine and 10 grams of raw licorice root. Take once a day for 3-4 days.

(2) Take 30g each of dandelion, plantain and purple gentian, one dose per day, divided into three doses for oral administration, for 3-4 days.

(3) Take 12g of wild chrysanthemum, 10g of Radix Angelicae Pubescentis, 15g of Salvia miltiorrhiza, 15g of Alisma orientalis, and 30g of Hedyotis diffusa, decoct and take in two doses.

(4) 1 clove of garlic, 10 ml of distilled water. Wash and mash the garlic. Mix the juice with distilled water and drip into the ear several times a day.

2. External treatment and self-therapy

(1) Take an egg yolk, put it in a pan (do not use an iron pan), heat it and stir-fry. After a while, the oil comes out and then filter it out. Prevent it from burning when frying. After cooling, take the oil and drip it into the ear, 3 drops each time, twice a day.

(2) Cut open 5 earthworms, clean them, add about 10 grams of sugar, filter out the clear liquid with clean gauze after 30 minutes, and drip it into the ears, 4 drops each time, 3 times a day.

(3) 50 grams of fresh pig bile (or chicken bile) and 5 grams of borneol, drip into the ear.

(4) Blow a small amount of ear powder into the ear, 3 times a day.

(5) Mash 2 raw garlics and 1 loofah together, squeeze out the juice into a cloth bag, and drip into the ear, 3-4 drops each time, 3 times a day.

(6) Crush walnut meat into oil, add a little borneol, and drip into the ear.
