What are the methods of TCM treatment for aplastic anemia?

Aplastic anemia is a hematopoietic dysfunction. It is relatively difficult to treat clinically, and prognosis is also very important. Aplastic anemia is mainly treated based on its classification, while TCM treatment of aplastic anemia is based on syndrome differentiation.

1. Kidney-tonifying and Yang-strengthening Method

It is suitable for patients with aplastic anemia with main symptoms of yang deficiency. In addition to the symptoms of blood deficiency, the clinical manifestations also include cold body and limbs, edema of the face and limbs, spontaneous sweating, light or no bleeding, loose stools, soreness of the waist and knees, pale and fat tongue with teeth marks, white tongue coating, and a weak and large pulse, or a deep and thin pulse. The prescription is Yougui Pills with modifications.

2. Nourishing Kidney Yin

It is suitable for patients with acute aplastic anemia and some chronic aplastic anemia with symptoms mainly of kidney yin deficiency. This type is characterized by obvious bleeding and common fever. Clinically, in addition to the symptoms of blood deficiency, there are also fever and epistaxis, hot hands and feet, dizziness, dry mouth and throat, night sweats, dry stool, soreness of the waist and knees, little tongue coating, and a thin and rapid pulse. The prescription is Da Cuscuta Zi Yin with modifications.

3. Nourishing Yin and Assisting Yang

It is suitable for those with symptoms of kidney yin deficiency and kidney yang deficiency, or those with neither obvious symptoms of yin deficiency or yang deficiency. The prescription uses Da Cuscuta Seed Drink and adds aphrodisiac ingredients.

4. Nourishing the Heart and Spleen

It is suitable for people with symptoms of both heart and spleen deficiency, and is mostly used for people with milder chronic aplastic anemia. It is often used in combination with kidney-tonifying drugs to treat aplastic anemia. Symptoms: Pale or sallow complexion, poor appetite, abdominal distension and tightness, loose stools, fatigue, pale tongue with white coating, and weak pulse. The prescription is Guipi Decoction with added ingredients.

5. Qi-boosting and blood-generating method

It is suitable for patients who only have symptoms of deficiency of both Qi and blood, but the symptoms of Yin and Yang and the five internal organs are not yet obvious. Most of them are mild cases of chronic aplastic anemia, and are used as auxiliary treatment for symptomatic treatment. Symptoms: Pale or sallow complexion, dizziness, palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue, pale red tongue with thin coating, and thin and weak pulse.
