What are the symptoms of finger tenosynovitis?

Punctures and bruises on the fingers in daily life may cause tenosynovitis, resulting in many adverse symptoms such as redness, swelling, pain and heat. In severe cases, the patient may even lose the ability to work. In this case, you must go to a regular hospital for examination and treatment. You can also increase the amount of finger activities on your own in daily life, and the symptoms will be significantly relieved.

1. Causes of finger tenosynovitis

Finger tenosynovitis often occurs on the palm side of the fingers. Each tendon on the palm side of the hand has a sheath. When the tendon sheath is injured and damaged, allowing bacteria to invade the sheath, tenosynovitis occurs. The causative bacteria are mostly Staphylococcus aureus, which is mostly caused by injuries such as punctures, bruises, hangnails or cutting the nails too deep.

The tendon sheath has the function of maintaining normal flexion and extension of the fingers and tendon sliding. When the hand is fixed in a certain position and subjected to repetitive and excessive activities, friction often occurs between the tendon and the tendon sheath, resulting in edema and fibrosis, causing narrowing of the inner cavity. Tenosynovitis is a condition in which pain and movement disorders occur due to the narrow path through which the tendon moves within the tendon sheath.

2. Symptoms of finger tenosynovitis

It often occurs on the palm surface of the finger. The affected finger will appear red, swollen, painful, and hot, and will be in a flexed position, because straightening the finger will cause pain. If not treated in time, after the purulent infection, tendon necrosis will cause the fingers to lose their function of movement, and the pus may also flow into the adjacent finger tendon sheaths and palm gaps, causing complete disability of the hand. The patient feels generally unwell, with chills and high fever.

Treatment

1. Massage with hands can cure tenosynovitis. Often alternate between hands and rub them. Use the right thumb to press the painful area of ​​the left hand, and then use the left thumb to rub the painful area of ​​the right hand. Press whenever you have time. If you persist for several months, you will be cured.

2. Rotate your wrist and do some gentle hand exercises to relieve the pain when the stinging starts. Rotating your wrist is one of the simpler exercises. Twist your wrists for about 2 minutes. It can exercise all wrist muscles, restore blood circulation, and eliminate the bent wrist posture that often causes symptoms such as wrist pain.

3. Exercise regularly. It is important to exercise every day and relax all sore muscles, even if you don't feel any pain. The local exercises introduced above should be practiced at least 4 times a day.

4. Raise your arms and hands above your head, rotating your arms and wrists at the same time. This helps realign your shoulders, neck, and upper back and relieves stress and tension.

5. Keep your hands elevated and avoid lowering them below your shoulders when you rest. Support your elbows on a table or rest them on a chair arm. Keep your hands facing upward. This is a beneficial resting posture.

6. Fist practice: gently clench your fist, then open it and straighten your fingers. Repeating this exercise will help relieve the pain. Apply ice to reduce swelling. Do not apply a hot pack to your wrist as this may increase the swelling.

7. Take painkillers and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin and ibuProfen, to reduce inflammation and relieve pain. But don't use paracetamol, this anti-inflammatory drug is suitable for headaches.

8. Avoid letting your arms hang down. When sleeping, keep your arms close to your body and your wrists straight. If you let your hands hang by the side of the bed, it will increase the pressure on your hands.

9. Take 30g each of fennel and orange seeds, fry until hot and divide into 4 portions. Put them in cloth bags and apply hot compresses on the affected area alternately. It will heal in a few days.

10. Apply medicated wine to the affected area. Use 50 grams of Earthworm, 35 grams of Pinellia ternata, 15 grams of Safflower, and 10 grams of Scorpio. Grind them into fine powder, add rice wine and soak for 2 weeks. Apply to the affected area until the area becomes hot. It can promote blood circulation and reduce swelling.
