What are the effects of Pueraria root

Pueraria root is a relatively common Chinese medicine. It has many functions in regulating the body and treating diseases. For example, it can improve the body's smooth muscles to a certain extent, has an antispasmodic effect, and has a good effect in relieving restlessness and quenching thirst. It is good in preventing typhoid fever and treating febrile headaches. It also has a certain effect in assisting the treatment of hypertension and angina pectoris.

1. Effects on smooth muscle

Daidzein in Pueraria root has anti-acetylcholine effect and can significantly contract smooth muscle. It is considered to be the main component of Pueraria root's antispasmodic effect.

2. Effects on coronary circulation

Pueraria root decoction, alcohol extract, total flavonoids and puerarin all have obvious effects on dilating coronary blood vessels, increasing coronary blood flow and reducing vascular resistance.

3. Effects on myocardial infarction and arrhythmia

Pueraria alcohol extract, soybean aglycone and puerarin all have obvious effects against arrhythmias induced by aconitine and barium chloride. Puerarin can also significantly shorten the duration of arrhythmias induced by chloroform and adrenaline in rabbits. Puerarin can significantly reduce the scope of myocardial infarction and is considered to be a β-adrenaline receptor blocker.

4. Effects on cardiac function and myocardial metabolism

Pueraria lobata total flavonoids and puerarin can slow down the heart rate, reduce the total peripheral resistance of the heart, reduce myocardial oxygen consumption, and improve myocardial working efficiency. Puerarin can also significantly reduce the production of myocardial lactic acid caused by ischemia and improve the metabolism of the infarcted myocardium.

5. Effects on blood pressure and peripheral blood vessels

Total flavonoids of Pueraria root and puerarin can significantly reduce plasma renin activity and angiotensin, and lower blood pressure. Puerarin has a significant improvement effect on microcirculation disorders, mainly manifested in increasing the amplitude of microvascular movement and improving local microblood flow; total flavonoids of Pueraria root have a significant effect of dilating cerebral blood vessels, improving cerebral microcirculation and peripheral circulation. It is reported that puerarin can also improve the block state of retinal vascular terminal units, thereby improving visual function.
