Many elderly people are susceptible to cataract problems. If cataracts are not treated properly, it will seriously affect vision, causing overlapping of objects when seeing them, and also leading to symptoms such as photophobia and glare. Therefore, it is necessary to discover them as early as possible and take treatment measures as soon as possible. 1. Cortical cataract does not affect vision in the early stage; after it develops, the vision is better than 0.6, and books and newspapers need to be read under strong light. Some people can read clearly in dim light, but the center is cloudy. Some develop slowly (fissures) and some develop quickly (fissure turbidity). 2. Nuclear cataracts, such as high myopia, may increase refractive power during the process of vision loss, which means that the original myopia will increase or the original presbyopia will be reduced. Some people who usually need to wear reading glasses can even see newspapers and books clearly without their glasses, which is a second vision. 3. What you see overlaps. Contrast sensitivity decreases under strong light, and glare occurs under car lights at night. Monet of France is a famous Impressionist painter. It is said that his fame is related to cataracts. The bridge over the water lilies in the pond, an early painting that did not become famous, has a delicate style and realistic colors. Later, after he developed cataracts due to eye disease, he boldly used bright colors and became a master of Impressionism because of his decreased contrast sensitivity. 4. Symptoms such as monocular diplopia or polyopia, iridescence, photophobia and glare may also occur. Generally speaking, the symptoms develop slowly, but if the patient has systemic diseases such as diabetes or local eye diseases such as high myopia, postoperative glaucoma, retinitis pigmentosa, uveitis, etc., cataracts will occur earlier and progress faster. 5. In addition, some people have been wearing reading glasses for a long time, and occasionally when they do not wear reading glasses, they can see close objects clearly. This is also an early sign of cataracts. Other early signs of cataracts include clouding of the lens, poor light vision, poor color vision, poor dark adaptation, and a prolonged time required to see objects clearly. |
