Why does sperm turn yellow?

Men's sperm health needs attention because it is also related to men's reproductive health. If the sperm is yellow, it is also a manifestation of sperm abnormality, which may sometimes be caused by some reproductive diseases or inflammation.

1. Yellow semen is one of the manifestations of abnormal semen. When semen is just ejaculated, it is mostly milky white or light yellow in appearance. If there is inflammation or it stays in the body for a long time, the color will become a darker yellow.

2. Semen is composed of sperm and seminal plasma. Sperm only accounts for a very small part, more than 90% is seminal plasma. Seminal plasma is secreted by accessory glands such as the prostate, seminal vesicles, bulbourethral glands, and paraurethral glands. Its main component is water, as well as fat, protein particles, pigment particles, lecithin bodies, enzymes, fructose and other ingredients.

3. Yellow sperm is an abnormal condition and is mostly a warning of inflammation. Causes of yellow semen:

1. Under normal circumstances. In fact, normal male semen is translucent, egg white-like milky white. If the abstinence period is long, the semen will become yellower due to changes in physical and chemical properties. This is normal.

2. The semen is red, indicating that it contains red blood cells, which is usually called "blood-spermia". Most cases of hematospermia are caused by epididymitis, seminal vesiculitis, prostatitis, and urethritis. This type of hematospermia caused by inflammation is mostly light red.

3. Under abnormal circumstances. Abnormal semen includes: milky white or yellow-green semen, or even blood in the semen, which indicates inflammation in the reproductive tract, most likely a purulent infection of the prostate and seminal vesicles. If the semen is yellow, it may be due to bacterial prostatitis. The longer the interval between sexual intercourse, the yellower the semen produced.
