With the rapid development of medicine, the application of enema therapy is becoming more and more widespread. As early as the Han Dynasty, enema medical therapy appeared in Zhang Zhongjing's "Treatise on Febrile Diseases". Nowadays, enema therapy is commonly used to treat diseases such as uremia, ulcerative enteritis, and bronchopneumonia. So what exactly is enema therapy? Basic content 1. Drug preparation Enema prescriptions are usually prepared temporarily based on the different conditions of the patients. After decoction, it is concentrated to a certain dosage and put into a container for later use. If using powder, just add and mix thoroughly when using. 2. Usage First, prepare an anal tube and apply a small amount of paraffin oil on the outside to make it lubricated so as not to irritate or damage the anus and intestinal mucosa during insertion; then insert the anal tube into the anus. The insertion depth depends on the disease and the site of the lesion, generally about 10-30 mm; then inject the prepared medicine through a syringe or drip it through an enema tube. The amount of enema solution and the retention time also need to be determined according to the condition of the patient. For example, in uremia, the volume is generally about 200-500 ml, which should be retained for 2-3 hours; intestinal obstruction, the volume is generally about 500 ml, which should be retained for 1-2 hours; and in ulcerative colitis, the volume is generally about 30-100 ml, which should be retained for 4-8 hours. 3. Clinical Application In addition to laxatives, this therapy is also used for the following diseases: Renal failure 1. Take raw rhubarb, oyster and dandelion for enema, and do not use other influential drugs under controlled conditions. For patients with non-terminal renal failure, nitrogen can be reduced, symptoms can disappear or be alleviated. A small number of patients with severe renal failure can survive up to 8 months, and moderate patients can survive for more than 1 year. Rhubarb can also be used as the main medicine in combination with other medicines to relieve constipation. 2. When inserting into the anal canal, the technique should be gentle to avoid scratching the mucosa. If you have hemorrhoids, you should be more cautious. 3. The enema solution should be retained for a period of time depending on the condition of the patient.
