Cinnamon foot bath effects and functions

Cinnamon foot bath effects and functions

Cinnamon is a common Chinese medicine, and it is also a seasoning for cooking. Many people don’t know that soaking your feet with cinnamon has very good health benefits. Soaking your feet with cinnamon can promote the health of kidney function. For kidney patients with decreased renal function and edema, soaking your feet with cinnamon before going to bed can achieve a certain effect of reducing swelling and treatment. In addition to cinnamon, mugwort, pepper, etc. all have certain effects of foot soaking.

Cinnamon foot bath: reduce swelling

Cinnamon, also known as cinnamon bark, official cinnamon or fragrant cinnamon, is a commonly used household spice along with Sichuan peppercorns. Both have the effect of warming the kidney yang. Soaking your feet in them can effectively relieve edema caused by kidney disease. The so-called nephrogenic edema is mainly edema caused by kidney function problems or diseases. It usually first occurs in areas with loose tissue, such as the eyelids, face, and ankles. It is most obvious when you wake up in the morning. Pressing the skin in the edematous area with your fingers may cause depression.

If renal edema occurs, you can boil 15 grams each (a handful or a small piece) of pepper and cinnamon and then soak your feet. The cooking method is the same as that of ginger: put it in a pot, add half a pot of water, cover the pot and boil with hot water for about 10 minutes. After cooking, pour out all the water and add appropriate amount of cold water to about 40℃. Continuously soaking your feet in this way can have a certain effect in reducing swelling.

Soaking your feet in mugwort leaves: dispelling cold and curing colds

Experiments tell us that mugwort has a strong effect of dispelling cold. Eating mugwort and soaking your feet in it can effectively promote blood circulation in the body and expel dampness and coldness from the body. Mugwort can dredge our twelve meridians and regulate the balance of yin and yang in the body. Once the meridians in the body are unblocked, the circulation of Qi and blood will naturally become smoother. When your Qi and blood are healthy, the coldness in your body will naturally disappear. Modern people generally suffer from excessive coldness and dampness due to lack of exercise, and mugwort can treat this condition very well.

When you catch a cold, have a runny nose, a sore throat, body aches, or have a fever, you can soak your feet in mugwort water until your body sweats, and you must also drink ginger and brown sugar water at the same time.

Put a handful of mugwort leaves into a clean pot, then add an appropriate amount of water, bring to a boil over high heat and continue to simmer for about ten minutes before taking out. Wait until the water cools down naturally enough to soak your feet. When soaking your feet, you must not sweat profusely all over your body. Instead, you should stop when you start to sweat slightly. Then massage the Yongquan point about a hundred times and you can go to sleep.

Soaking your feet in pepper water: Get rid of the cold and prevent influenza

Sichuan peppercorns are a common aromatic ingredient in home cooking, but their medicinal value is little known. Sichuan pepper is a cold-relieving medicine in traditional Chinese medicine. It can dispel internal cold, support yang energy, and promote the flow of qi and water. In addition, Sichuan pepper has the effects of sterilization, disinfection, analgesia, itching relief, and elimination of ulcers. Soaking your feet in water with pepper has the same effect as soaking your feet in water with angelica or safflower. Both can invigorate blood circulation and dredge meridians, making the blood flow throughout the body unobstructed and the whole body warm. In addition, peppercorns are a natural disinfectant, and soaking your feet in peppercorn water can help treat athlete's foot.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that soaking your feet in water with peppercorns is better for promoting sleep than soaking your feet in hot water. In fact, the method is very simple. Wrap 50 grams of pepper (1 jin is divided into 10 portions) in a cotton cloth, tie it tightly with a rope, add water and boil it, and then use the water to soak your feet. The pepper bags can be reused repeatedly and can be replaced with new ones after a week or so.
