Why are there so many melanin on children's teeth?

Why are there so many melanin on children's teeth?

The appearance of some melanin on the teeth is often due to not paying attention to personal oral hygiene, or not rinsing the mouth after eating, which can easily cause the deposition of melanin. Over time, it may cause tartar and lead to tooth decay. For children, dental health is more important, so parents must take their children to the hospital for examination in time to remove the melanin on the teeth in time.

What causes tooth pigmentation in children?

1. Children's tooth surface pigmentation is related to the frequency of eating pigmented foods or drinks (such as chocolate, cola, coffee, tea, etc.). Eating more pigmented foods will increase the source of pigments, and pigment deposition will lead to the formation of pigments on children's tooth surfaces.

2. Some children do not brush their teeth and rinse their mouths carefully, especially after eating. In this way, the pigments in the food will adhere to the tooth surface for a long time and cause pigmented teeth.

3. Dental melanin deposition has obvious individual susceptibility. The tooth surface with the most dental melanin deposition is located on the lingual side of the mandibular anterior teeth, close to the opening of the sublingual gland duct, which suggests that saliva may play a role in the formation of melanin deposition.

4. Most studies have shown that children with exogenous dental melanin have a special bacterial environment in their oral cavity, with a higher content of actinomycetes and a lower content of caries-causing microorganisms. Actinomycetes and other microorganisms may play a role in the formation of dental melanin.

How to prevent and treat tooth pigmentation in children?

1. Cleaning should be done from the moment the child's teeth erupt. During infancy, you can wipe the child's teeth with gauze or cleaning fingertips; rinse the mouth with clean water after drinking milk, especially at night; start helping your child brush his teeth as early as possible, at least once in the morning and evening, to ensure the quality and quantity of brushing.

2. Do not let your children eat foods that can easily stain their teeth for a long time. They should brush their teeth or rinse their mouths after eating.

3. If parents find that pigmentation has formed on their children’s teeth, they should take their children to see a dentist for professional treatment such as tooth abrasives to remove pigments or teeth cleaning and polishing.

Why is there melanin on children's teeth?

Those black spots on children's teeth that feel smooth when picked are probably pigmentation. Teeth cleaning can remove pigmentation and plaque on children's teeth, making their teeth whiter and healthier. Some children start to change their teeth at the age of 5, and most of them cannot clean their teeth well during this period. If they eat some pigmented foods at this time, food residues will remain in the mouth for a long time. After a long period of accumulation, it is easy to cause pigmentation, dental plaque and other problems, which seriously affect the child's oral health and appearance.
