I coughed up something smelly, what's going on?

When you cough up something that smells very bad, it is generally called tonsil stones. Many people are not particularly familiar with this type of stone. This type of tonsil stone smells extremely bad. If this type of stone appears, it must be removed in time. We should pay more attention to nutrition in our daily life. We know that tonsils are an immune organ. If it is caused by inflammation, it may cause tonsillitis. We must pay attention to it at this time.

I coughed up something smelly, what's going on?

Can tonsil stones also form? ! That’s right! Your tonsils are located at the back of your throat. They look like cracked plums, or, as some say, small golf balls with dimples. The gaps in the tonsils are easy to "hide dirt and filth". When people finish eating, food will remain in the hidden nests of the tonsils. After being fermented by bacteria and decomposed by digestive enzymes in saliva, it will form smelly and hard substances. In addition, the tonsils will intercept some other oral substances, such as cells shed from the upper wall of the mouth, which together form lumps.

Why do tonsil stones smell so bad?

Tonsil stones smell bad because bacteria ferment food waste, producing an odor similar to rotten eggs. So, for those who enjoy squeezing their tonsil stones and smelling them, it may be that they enjoy immersing themselves in the sulfide fumes that are emitted when the stones are broken. Of course, there is nothing wrong with this habit itself, just like some people are used to smelling their socks after taking them off, or some people are used to looking back after defecating. There is nothing wrong with it.

However, liking the smell yourself and liking the smell of others are two different things. Tonsil stones can cause patients to have embarrassing bad breath. Generally speaking, most people who suffer from recurrent tonsil stones have more or less bad breath. If you often have bad breath and find that people around you don’t want to talk to you, you also need to check whether you have tonsil stones.

How to remove the stones?

In the most common case, the stones are coughed out or fall out on their own. However, some larger and deeper stones are not so easy to clean. Below, the big-breasted girl recommends several methods to help you get rid of the stones.

The first step is manual removal.

The tools you need to prepare include cotton swabs/hairpins/acne needles, mirror, flashlight, tissues, and water.

What is the smelly yellow particle that comes out of your throat?

Pronounce "a" in front of the mirror, press the root of your tongue down as far as possible to expose your tonsils. Wash your hands in advance. You can touch your tonsils first to find the location of the tonsil stones, and then use a cotton swab, the looped end of a hairpin, or the looped end of an acne needle to scrape out all the visible stones. Be careful to be gentle and don't break your mouth, otherwise the wound will be infected by bacteria.

After all visible stones are removed, the deeper tonsil stones can also be "squeezed" out. Place your thumbs on your neck, under your chin, and put your clean index fingers inside your mouth, near your tonsils, and gently squeeze out any remaining stones (like you would toothpaste). If too much saliva is secreted during the cleaning process, you need to rinse your mouth before cleaning.

The second trick is an oral irrigator.

Use an oral irrigator, such as a water washer (water jet), to rinse the area where the tonsil stones are located, using high-pressure pulsed water jets to flush the stones out. However, it should be noted that when using it, try to choose the smallest pressure level. If the water pressure of the flushing equipment is too high, it will puncture the tonsils and cause infection.

The third method is drug and surgical treatment.

Antibiotic treatment. Tonsil stones most commonly occur in people who frequently suffer from tonsillitis. Therefore, if you frequently have tonsil stones, you can use antibiotics to treat them, such as penicillin, erythromycin, etc., to kill some of the bacteria in the mouth and prevent persistent infection of the tonsils. Laser treatment can also effectively remove stones, but this method is not a permanent solution and cannot prevent the regeneration of stones. If you are really troubled by tonsil stones and bad breath, you can consider having a tonsillectomy. Without tonsils, food debris will not accumulate and stones will not form. Surgery can permanently resolve the stone problem. Will the surgery be dangerous? Don't worry, this is a very common operation.
