How to treat fish flesh in eyes

How to treat fish flesh in eyes

The saying "fish flesh growing in the eyes" is a very popular one. Clinically, this phenomenon is often called pterygium, which is also a very troubling eye problem for people. Pterygium is prone to recurrence, so you must pay attention to the treatment method and conditioning control in daily life. There are many ways to treat pterygium, which is also related to the severity of the disease. So how to treat fish flesh in the eyes?

1. Eye drops

Use antibiotic eye drops to control conjunctival inflammation and reduce congestion. Corticosteroid eye drops may be used when congestion is more severe. To reduce external stimulation, you can wear appropriate photochromic glasses.

2. Small, static pterygium does not require treatment

If the pterygium is progressive or has approached the pupil area, affecting vision or restricting eye movement, surgical resection can be performed. For patients who are unwilling to undergo surgery, 0.3ml of 2000~3000U/ml bleomycin solution can be injected into the neck and body of the pterygium under surface anesthesia once a week, and 3~6 times constitute a course of treatment. To alleviate local reactions, 0.3 ml of prednisolone and tetracycline cortisone eye ointment can be injected under the conjunctiva of the contralateral side.

3. Cryotherapy

Use a 40°C freezing head to touch the head and neck of the pterygium to destroy its new blood vessels and cause them to shrink. For smaller and thinner pterygium.

4. Surgery

(1) Indications: ① The pterygium is progressive, hypertrophic and congested; ② The pterygium has invaded the area near the pupil and affected vision.

The surgical treatment of pterygium should achieve three main goals: 1. safely and completely remove the pterygium; 2. achieve good optical effect; and 3. avoid recurrence. Therefore, one must be particularly careful when choosing a surgical method.

5. Note

No matter which method is used for pterygium, there is a possibility of recurrence, so it is important to explain this clearly to the patient in advance. To prevent the recurrence of pterygium after surgery, the key points of each step, such as the peeling of pterygium, the cleaning of the tissue under the pterygium, the exposure of the sclera or the use of conjunctival grafts, should be handled with caution during the initial operation. Postoperative adjuvant therapy also has a certain effect in preventing recurrence. For example, using 0.5% to 2.5% cortisone eye drops 4 times a day for 1 month after surgery can reduce neovascularization; using 1:2000 thiotepa solution eye drops 4 times a day for 1 to 3 months; or using X-ray or beta-ray irradiation can all have a certain effect in preventing the recurrence of pterygium.
