A simple method to diagnose vitiligo

To get a confirmed diagnosis of vitiligo, you should go to the hospital for a formal examination in time. As a self-diagnosis, vitiligo can also reveal some clues. For example, vitiligo often occurs on exposed areas of skin, often on the limbs, torso and head. In the early stages, the white spots are relatively small, usually only 1 to 2 pieces. As the disease progresses, they will gradually expand, and the white spots will fuse, etc.

A simple method to diagnose vitiligo

1. Onset site method

White spots mainly appear on exposed parts of the skin, such as the trunk, face, buttocks, neck, back, and external genitalia. They are prone to occur in parts that are prone to damage from the sun and friction. This is also one of the effective ways to diagnose vitiligo. In the early stages of vitiligo, there are usually 1-2 white spots, which is a relatively small number.

2. Visual observation

After some white spots appear on the body, you can directly rub or pat the white spots. The skin is sensitive to stimulation from external objects, and patting hard will make the skin turn red quickly. However, the white spots caused by vitiligo will affect the pigmentation and cause a slow reaction of the skin. Normal skin will turn red after being patted and rubbed. You can observe directly with your naked eyes that the white spots caused by vitiligo will affect the normal reaction of the skin. If you find that the white spots do not turn red, they are most likely vitiligo white spots.

3. Sunlight exposure method

After white spots appear, carefully observe the color changes between the white spots and other normal skin to see whether there are obvious lines and whether the area of the white spots is spreading. At the same time, the white spots of vitiligo are very sensitive to ultraviolet rays. After sun exposure, they may turn red, burn, blister, and itch. In severe cases, white spots will develop. You can expose the white spots on your skin to direct sunlight outdoors. After a period of time, if the white spots show symptoms such as itching and pain, they can be preliminarily diagnosed as vitiligo spots.

4. Sensory abnormality method

The surface of the white spots is smooth, without scales or crusts, and the sensation and secretion functions are normal. However, a small number of patients feel itching in the white spots, and some even feel severe itching. This can be seen when the white spots are developing and taking effect. In addition, a small number of vitiligo patients secrete sweat with an odor in the white spots.

5. Symptom Identification

The white spots caused by some skin problems will not have much impact on the skin pigmentation, and are generally accompanied by symptoms such as redness, swelling and itching. The white spots of vitiligo are painless and itchy before the disease occurs. The red and swollen white spots are clearly demarcated from normal skin, which is mainly reflected in the impact on local skin. If it is in the progressive stage, the edges of the white spots may also appear blurred, and some have a diffuse halo around the white spots, with a color between normal skin and white spots. The hair in leukoplakia can be white, normal, or black and white. If the hair in the affected area turns white, it will be relatively more difficult to treat.
