Why do gums bleed when brushing? Small problems can indicate big problems

Brushing teeth in the morning and evening is a way for people to maintain dental hygiene, but most people will occasionally experience bleeding gums when brushing their teeth. This condition will disappear after a few days if they ignore it, so bleeding gums when brushing teeth are often ignored by people. In fact, small situations often indicate big problems, and bleeding gums when brushing your teeth should not be underestimated. So what exactly causes bleeding gums when brushing your teeth?

According to experts, healthy teeth will not bleed when brushing. Bleeding when brushing your teeth occurs only when plaque or tartar forms on the tooth surface at the edge of the gums, stimulating the gum tissue, causing the capillaries in the gums to dilate and become congested, increasing permeability and causing an inflammatory reaction.

Usually the color of the gums will change from pink to bright red or dark red, and the gum edges will become thicker, softer, and less elastic.

Gum bleeding during brushing usually occurs intermittently and the amount of bleeding is usually not much. Some bleeding can stop on its own within a period of time. By going to the dental department for examination and teeth cleaning, most of the bleeding caused by brushing will disappear.

If bleeding persists after treatment, consider whether it is due to vitamin deficiency. Diabetic patients have a lower resistance to infection and may also experience recurrent bleeding and swelling of the gums.

If you find extensive bleeding, necrosis, pain, swelling, etc. on the gums, you should suspect blood system diseases such as neutropenia, thrombocytopenic purpura, leukemia, hemophilia, etc. This phenomenon may also be an early symptom of AIDS.
