Why does urine taste like strong tea?

If your urine is like strong tea, you should be careful. It may be due to drinking too little water, which leads to the color change, or it may be caused by getting a sore throat. If this phenomenon occurs frequently, it may be related to kidney disease, kidney stones, and urinary tract stones. At this time, you need to go to the hospital for examination in time to avoid causing greater harm to your health. You should have a routine urine test in time.

Urine comes in 8 different colors

1. Colorless urine

If your urine is colorless and transparent like boiled water, first think about whether you have drunk too much water. If so, then OK you are healthy. But if you don't drink much water, it may be a precursor to diabetes insipidus, diabetes or chronic interstitial nephritis. You need to go to the hospital for further examination.

2. Milky urine

Milky urine can manifest as the following three phenomena:

① Pyuria: The urine is milky white, like rice washing water, and often has flocs suspended in it, and there is sediment when it is left standing. If the patient has multiple symptoms such as urgency, frequency, pain, and difficulty urinating, it may be renal tuberculosis, renal abscesses, or urinary tract infection caused by obstruction or foreign bodies. It may also be prostatitis, gonorrhea, non-gonococcal urethritis, etc. Patients need to seek medical treatment as soon as possible to avoid worsening of the condition.

②Chylous urine: The color is darker than pyuria, like milk, sometimes mixed with white clots or blood. This may be caused by overexertion or eating a high-fat diet. You can take adequate rest or eat a low-fat diet to restore urine to normal.

③ Crystalluria: The urine is white, like lime water, and often appears at the end of urine. Those with white urine may experience slight discomfort in the urethra and occasionally renal colic. Crystalluria is not a disease, but is caused by insufficient urine volume. Therefore, the key for patients with this condition is to drink more boiled water.

3. Dark yellow urine

If you drink less water, your urine will be beer yellow, which is normal. But if your urine is yellow like strong tea, and you haven't eaten yellow foods such as carrots and oranges in the past few days, you should consider whether there is a problem with your liver or gallbladder. Because one of the obvious early symptoms of hepatitis is that the urine is the color of strong tea. If you find this happening, you should see a doctor immediately.

In addition, if your urine is yellow and turbid with pyuria, it may be a sign of suppuration of the urinary organs.

4. Brown urine

Urine that is brown in color like soy sauce can be seen in acute nephritis, acute icteric hepatitis, renal crush injury, extensive burns, hemolytic anemia, mistyped blood transfusion, etc. Even after strenuous exercise, the urine may be like soy sauce. In addition, if the urethra is inflamed due to diet or bad living habits, the urine may also appear brown. If this condition occurs in the urine, it is recommended that you go to the hospital for a routine urine test or renal function test, and a renal biopsy if necessary.

5. Red urine

First, check to see if you have recently eaten foods with different colors, such as beets, amaranth, blueberries, etc. If not, then you are suffering from blood in your urine. This type of hematuria, which is visible to the naked eye, is a common symptom. For example, urinary system diseases (infection, trauma, tumors, etc.), various primary, secondary and hereditary nephritis, bladder, urethral stones, vascular diseases, etc. are common causes of hematuria. It may even be a sign of lead or mercury poisoning. In short, the problem is quite serious, so go see a doctor.

6. Blue urine

Urine of this color is usually related to medication and not caused by disease. For example, taking the diuretic triamterene, methylene blue, indigo carmine, large amounts of salicylic acid, or injecting methylene blue injections will cause blue urine, which will return to normal after the effect of the drug wears off.

If you have no experience of taking medication, it may be caused by a urinary tract infection or certain diseases. Blue urine can be seen in cholera, typhus, primary hypercalcemia, vitamin D poisoning, etc. Urine may also turn blue when there is small intestinal obstruction, typhoid fever, peritonitis, intestinal motility disorders, chronic gastritis, gastric cancer, decreased gastric acid secretion, and increased protein decomposition in the intestine. You need to go to the hospital for further confirmation of the specific symptoms.

7. Green urine

When urine is this color, symptoms can be mild or severe. Mild cases include light green urine, which can occur after taking large amounts of anti-inflammatory drugs or if you have eaten colored foods. If the urine is greener, it means that the urethra is infected by specific bacteria. If Pseudomonas aeruginosa grows in the urine, the urine will appear green.

In fact, if the symptoms are mild, the urine can be restored to normal by "eating a light diet and drinking more water". However, if the urine is dark green, it can also be seen in cholera, typhus, primary hypercalcemia, vitamin D poisoning, etc. This situation is more serious, so you should go see a doctor to solve it.

8. Dark urine

Black urine is relatively rare and often occurs in patients with acute intravascular hemolysis, such as patients with malignant malaria. It is medically known as blackwater fever and is one of the most serious complications of malignant malaria. In addition, black urine may also be excreted when suffering from phenol poisoning or pigmentoma or alkaptonuria. If you have dark urine, seek medical attention immediately.
