Why do my eyes go black sometimes?

You may feel that you have no symptoms, but suddenly your eyes may go dark. This sudden darkening is caused by a change in your body position. Because it happens suddenly, your blood pressure may drop or rise suddenly, causing blackening of the eyes. These symptoms are rarely seen in young people. They are mostly seen in the elderly. Patients with certain tumors or anemia are also prone to this symptom.

1. Postural hypotension is caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure of more than 20 mmHg when the patient changes from a lying position to a sitting or upright position, or stands for a long time, accompanied by obvious symptoms, including dizziness, blurred vision, fatigue, nausea, cognitive dysfunction, palpitations, and neck and back pain. Postural hypotension is related to many diseases, such as multiple system atrophy, diabetes, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, menopausal disorders, hemodialysis, surgical sequelae, anesthesia, antihypertensive drugs, diuretics, hypnotics, antipsychotics, etc., or other conditions such as: long-term bedridden elderly people with weak constitution.

3. If everything in front of your eyes becomes dark when it gets dark, and you can’t see anything clearly, this is night blindness. This disease is mostly caused by a condition called congenital retinitis pigmentosa, followed by vitamin A deficiency due to malnutrition or picky eating.
