What does meniscus degeneration mean?

Many people are not quite clear about what meniscus degeneration means. In fact, if this happens, it is quite serious and will directly affect one's normal work and life. However, many patients are unable to discover it in the first time. They only feel some pain in their meniscus when walking, but after a short rest, they will find that the symptoms have been alleviated or even completely disappeared, and no more serious phenomena will occur.

Meniscus degeneration can occur at any age. It is mostly caused by trauma in young and middle-aged people, and by degenerative changes of bones and joints in middle-aged and elderly people.

Most patients have no history of trauma. Swelling gradually occurs after injury, and is more obvious on the injured side. Pain often occurs in a certain position during exercise, and the pain may disappear after the position is changed. The pain is located in the joint spaces on both sides; walking is possible but with weakness, which is particularly obvious when going up and down stairs, and is accompanied by pain or discomfort. With a long course of illness, the quadriceps muscles will gradually atrophy; locking symptoms.

In acute injury, the synovial membrane of the inner wall of the joint capsule is damaged, causing intra-articular bleeding and exudation. After the injury, the joints gradually swell and the pain persists. After rest and general anti-edema and analgesic treatment, the symptoms were alleviated, but pain still occurred in the joint space, especially when the joint was extended and flexed to a certain position. When walking, especially going up and down stairs, I feel weakness in my lower limbs and my legs often go weak, which affects my work and life. After meniscus injury, use meniscus pain-relieving patch externally for treatment.
