Can children with cerebral palsy laugh?

Cerebral palsy is a very harmful disease that often leads to serious sequelae, especially neonatal cerebral palsy, which will have a huge impact on both parents and children. In daily life, if parents find that their children cannot laugh or have problems with their expressions, they should go to the hospital for examination in time. Cerebral palsy often manifests itself in a variety of disorders, such as visual and auditory disorders, growth and development disorders, intellectual disabilities, etc.

1. Visual and hearing impairment:

Many children with cerebral palsy have myopia or strabismus, among which esotropia is the most common. Hearing loss is more common in athetoid cerebral palsy. Children with cerebral palsy often have difficulty distinguishing the rhythm of sounds.

2. Growth and development disorders:

Some children with mild cerebral palsy may have basically or nearly normal growth and development, but most children with cerebral palsy are shorter than normal children of the same age and their growth and development appear to be retarded.

3. Tooth development disorders:

Most children with cerebral palsy have poorly developed teeth, loose teeth that are prone to decay, and a higher incidence of various dental diseases than normal children.

4. Oral and facial dysfunction:

Some children with cerebral palsy have obvious spasms or uncoordinated contractions of their facial and tongue muscles. This can cause children to have difficulty chewing and swallowing, difficulty closing their mouth, and drooling.

5. Postural disorders:

Children with cerebral palsy have abnormal body postures, poor posture stability, awkward postures when moving or still, and asymmetry between the left and right sides. In some severe cases, the head is often not in the vertical center position like that of normal children, but tends to lean to one side, or sway left and right, front and back.

6. Intellectual Disability:

Among all children with cerebral palsy, about 1/4 have normal intelligence, about 1/2 have mild or moderate intellectual disabilities, and about 1/4 have severe intellectual disabilities.

7. Language Barriers:

Most children with cerebral palsy may have varying degrees of language disorders, some of which may present as difficulty in expressing themselves or forming words, some as unclear pronunciation or stuttering, and some as aphasia, that is, they can understand other people's language but cannot speak themselves. This situation is particularly common in children with athetoid cerebral palsy.

Adhere to eugenics and good parenting

Ensure the healthy development of the fetus; conduct regular prenatal examinations, and treat hypertension and preeclampsia in time to avoid dystocia; ensure good nutrition for pregnant women and prevent premature birth; avoid unnecessary medication during pregnancy, and do a good job of preventing rubella during pregnancy (especially the first three months); encourage breastfeeding to enhance the baby's ability to resist infection. After the baby is born, go to the hospital for regular check-ups to detect symptoms of developmental delay early and provide timely guidance and treatment; carry out regular vaccinations to prevent meningitis and other infectious diseases; educate parents to identify the early symptoms of meningitis and the correct treatment of fever, and send the child to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment in time if he or she is sick.
