Why does fever cause body aches?

Why does fever cause body aches?

When you have a cold, you will have a fever, which will cause body aches. In fact, this is a normal physiological phenomenon. Fever will cause muscle pain and joint pain. This is mainly because the amount of lactic acid produced when you have a fever is relatively large, which will cause lactic acid hypoxia in the muscles, directly leading to joint and muscle pain. Fever will cause a decrease in energy and physical strength. When the fever is over, these symptoms will gradually disappear.

Why does fever cause body aches?

Fever accompanied by pain in the joints and muscles of the limbs is often seen in acute infectious or contagious diseases such as influenza. Viruses, bacteria and their toxins, fungi, spirochetes and other microorganisms, immune responses, certain drugs, etc. can all act as pyrogens, affecting the temperature regulation center in the hypothalamus, causing the body to produce more heat and dissipate less, causing the body temperature to rise and causing fever. Among them, prostaglandins have the strongest pyrogenic effect. Under the action of various pyrogens, the synthesis and release of prostaglandins in the body temperature regulation center increase, thereby causing fever. At the same time, prostaglandin inflammatory response is related to pain. It not only has a pro-inflammatory effect, but also can enhance the body's sensitivity to pain and enhance the response to pain-causing substances such as histamine and bradykinin, thereby causing pain in the joints and muscles of the limbs.

Fever, body aches, or high lactic acid production

The receptors of soft tissues such as muscles and joints are very sensitive to stimulation from physical and chemical factors. Fever, hypoxia, etc. can increase lactic acid and histamine in the muscles. Hypoxia, calcium deficiency, etc. can also cause muscle cramps and contractions, directly causing pain in the joints and muscles. Human body fever is caused by skeletal muscle metabolism, and the abnormal product of skeletal muscle metabolism is lactic acid. A large amount of lactic acid accumulates in the muscles, causing body aches and weakness in the limbs.

Fever, body aches, or decreased energy and strength

When you have a fever, your body temperature will rise, your body will consume more water, and more electrolytes such as potassium ions and sodium ions will be lost in your body. When people lack potassium, not only their energy and physical strength will decrease, but their heat tolerance will also decrease, and people will feel tired.

Fever, body aches, or decreased oxygen-carrying capacity of hemoglobin

When a person has a fever due to bacterial infection, the white blood cell index in the human body increases, while the hemoglobin index decreases, which means that the oxygen carrying capacity of hemoglobin in the human body decreases. At this time, the person will experience headaches, dizziness, and weakness in the limbs. Fever and body aches are not muscle diseases

Note: Fever and fatigue are not muscle diseases. Muscle diseases are caused by genetic defects, metabolic disorders, immune damage, etc., while muscle soreness after a cold and fever is mainly caused by decreased resistance and accumulation of acidic substances. Therefore, the two should not be confused. As a person's cold becomes more severe, it may cause complications such as myocarditis and pneumonia, but it will not lead to muscle disease.
