How to treat neuralgia caused by herpes zoster

Shingles is a relatively common skin disease, which is quite harmful to patients. One of its most common symptom is neuralgia, which is quite severe and can easily cause sequelae to patients. The neuralgia caused by shingles must be treated in time, for example, certain medications can be used, mainly Western medicine and Chinese medicine. On the one hand, antiviral treatment should be carried out, and on the other hand, some anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs can be used. Physical therapy is also common.

How to treat neuralgia caused by herpes

1. Treatment of neuralgia (1) The initial dose of corticosteroid prednisone is 30 mg/day orally. After it becomes clearly effective (about 7 to 10 days), the dose can be gradually reduced. Generally, good results can be achieved. (2) Local blockade with triamcinolone suspension: 1 ml (10 mg) of triamcinolone suspension plus 4 to 8 ml of 0.5% to 1% procaine or lidocaine injection are injected subcutaneously at the affected nerve once a week. For example, the intercostal nerves can also be injected into the intercostal space of the affected nerve 3 to 4 cm beside the spine.

2. Antiviral treatment (1) Antiviral drugs should be used as early as possible. The commonly used drug is acyclovir, which is taken orally, and patients with impaired renal function need to reduce the dosage. (2) Commonly used analgesics: analgesics, 1 tablet. Each tablet of carbamazepine is 0.1g. Initially take half a tablet each time, and gradually increase to 3 times a day, 1 tablet each time. The analgesic effect is obvious. However, attention should be paid to leukocytopenia and thrombocytopenia, rash, and changes in liver and kidney function. It is contraindicated for patients with a history of atrioventricular block and bone marrow suppression. (3) Nerve nutrition drugs commonly used include oral vitamin B1 and intramuscular injection of vitamin B12. 3. Physical therapy (1) Ultraviolet light: Use medium-wave ultraviolet rays (UVB) to irradiate the skin lesions to promote drying and scabbing of the lesions. (2) Infrared or ultra-short waves: Irradiating the affected area can help relieve pain.

4. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment mainly consists of oral administration of Chinese medicine combined with plum blossom needle, fire needle, cupping and bloodletting therapy.

Note: 1. The purpose of early and accurate syndrome differentiation and treatment is to eliminate pathogenic factors as soon as possible and reduce stimulation and damage to the body. 2. Pay attention to rest, take and apply medicine seriously, and do not eat spicy and irritating foods during the medication period: such as seafood, eggs, fish, beef and mutton, as well as fried and stir-fried foods. You should eat light food, eat more vegetables and fruits, and supplement vitamins. 3. Elderly and frail patients should prevent the occurrence of serious complications: Most elderly people are prone to herpes zoster due to the decline of their body functions and low immune function due to the influence of related causes. They are prone to serious complications after the disease. The same is true for frail people, especially those who use corticosteroids for a long time. Therefore, it is very important to prevent the occurrence of serious complications.
