Bile duct stones after cholecystectomy

Bile duct stones after cholecystectomy

A normal person's gallbladder will not develop disease, but an abnormal gallbladder may develop stones, inflammation and other diseases. When cholecystitis is not too serious, it can be treated with medication. As cholecystitis worsens, it will eventually lead to sediment causing gallstones, and surgical treatment is required at this time. It is very important to master the methods and techniques in the treatment of gallstones.

Uses Gallbladder surgery is used to treat gallbladder diseases, primarily cholelithiasis.

The cystic duct becomes blocked, causing severe abdominal pain - biliary colic.

Infection and inflammation of the gallbladder -- cholecystitis.

Blockage of bile flow to the duodenum - bile obstruction.

All of the above situations require cholecystectomy for treatment.

Today, most gallbladder surgeries are performed using laparoscopic surgery, which uses delicate instruments, including a camera, to enter the abdominal cavity through a tiny puncture in the abdomen. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is simple and convenient.

The laparoscopic camera is inserted into the abdominal cavity near the navel, and other instruments are introduced into the abdominal cavity through two or more small punctures.

After finding the gallbladder, cut the blood vessels and bile duct and take the gallbladder out.

If the gallbladder is severely infected or inflamed, or if there are giant gallstones, a cholecystectomy may be required. The surgical incision is made in the right abdomen, just below the costal arch.

During the operation, the liver is pushed aside to expose the gallbladder, the blood vessels and bile ducts connecting the liver and gallbladder are cut, the gallbladder is removed, and the common bile duct is checked to see if it is blocked by stones.

If there is an infection, a small drainage tube may be left in place for several days.

Most patients who undergo laparoscopic cholecystectomy are able to return home the same day and resume normal eating and activities.

Patients who undergo open cholecystectomy will need to stay in the hospital for 5-7 days after the operation, can eat normally after a week, and can resume normal activities after 4-6 weeks.
