Urinary stone pain medication

Urinary stone pain medication

Urinary tract stones are a type of stone formed by bacteria, infection products and damaged tissues due to poor hygiene. It is one of the most common urological diseases. Urinary stones are a general term for urinary system stone diseases, which are divided into kidney stones, bladder stones, etc. according to different locations. Generally, patients with these stones will experience lumbar and abdominal cramps, but what painkillers are used to relieve pain from urinary stones? Let us learn about them.

Painkillers:

Diclofenac (Voltaren), indomethacin, hydromorphone hydrochloride + atropine sulfate (Durmidine-atropine), analgin, pentazocine + tramadol

1. When treating, it is best to start with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. If the pain is not relieved, then switch to alternative drugs. Hydromorphone hydrochloride and other opium preparations should be used simultaneously with atropine as much as possible, and should not be used alone. Diclofenac affects the glomerular potassium filtration rate in patients with renal insufficiency, but has no significant effect on patients with normal renal function.

2. When it is expected that the stones will pass on their own, diclofenac suppositories or tablets 50 mg/day, twice a day, for 3-10 days, may be helpful in reducing ureteral edema and reducing the risk of recurrent pain. Appropriate testing is then done to confirm that the stone has been passed and to evaluate renal function. Expelled stones should be recovered for stone composition analysis.

3. If the pain cannot be relieved by medical medication, percutaneous nephrostomy drainage, stent placement and drainage, or lithotomy should be used to drain urine.

Prevention and control measures:

1. Drink plenty of water to ensure 1500 ml of urine per day. Pay special attention to drinking water at night. Drinking water can prevent urinary stones and help excrete smaller urinary stones.

2. If the urinary stones are not large, with a diameter of less than 1 cm, there is no urinary tract infection or obstruction, and the kidney function is still good, non-surgical treatment can be tried, including drinking more water, more exercise, and taking traditional Chinese medicine that is conducive to the excretion of stones.

3. If the stones are large and estimated to be difficult to pass on their own, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy can be used. This is a method that uses underwater high-voltage discharge to cause explosive vaporization of water, releasing huge energy, thus generating supersonic shock waves in the water. This powerful shock wave is focused to concentrate the scattered force and target the urinary stones in the human body, breaking them up and then excreting them with urine. Our country has used this method to cure tens of thousands of patients with urinary stones, and relevant patients may wish to adopt it.

4. The last method is surgical treatment, which is to remove the urinary stones. Doctors will consider this procedure, especially for cases where the stones have been blocking the patient for a long time, or are large urinary stones, or have affected kidney function and need to be cured as soon as possible.

In short, urinary stones cannot be left alone in the body. You should work closely with your doctor to find appropriate and effective methods to get rid of them as soon as possible.
