Can hemorrhoids be treated with traditional Chinese medicine?

Nowadays, many people suffer from diseases such as hemorrhoids, and no one understands why they suffer from hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids (commonly known as hemorrhoids) are a common disease located in the anal area. They can occur at any age, but the incidence rate gradually increases with age. In my country, hemorrhoids are the most common anorectal disease, and there is a saying that "nine out of ten men have hemorrhoids" and "ten out of ten women have hemorrhoids". In the United States, the prevalence of hemorrhoids is approximately 5%.

Hemorrhoids located inside the anus are called "internal hemorrhoids", those located on the skin outside the anus are called "external hemorrhoids", and if internal and external hemorrhoids appear at the same time, they are called "mixed hemorrhoids". Traditional Chinese medicine calls them "hemorrhoids".

(Western medicine) Surgical treatment of hemorrhoids is mainly based on surgery, including freezing, laser, electrotherapy, etc. Traditional Chinese medicine in mainland China still uses oral Chinese medicine, external embolization, fumigation, injections, ligation, etc. On the other hand, it also adjusts the patient's diet, changes bowel habits, etc., and has achieved considerable results.

The following is a brief description of several commonly used TCM treatment methods in clinical practice:

(1) Hemorrhoids Bloody stool is a common symptom of internal and external hemorrhoids. Sometimes only the toilet paper is stained with blood or blood is dripping. In severe cases, spurt-like bleeding may occur before and after defecation. Patients with excess syndrome have bright red blood and a shorter illness period, and the prescription is "Liangxue Dihuang Decoction" plus "Zhilou Pills", which can remove blood stasis and eliminate hemorrhoids. Patients with deficiency syndrome have yellow face and fatigue, and light red blood, and generally have more spurts of blood. This is a phenomenon of spleen deficiency and inability to regulate blood, so the treatment requires "tonifying the spleen and consolidating blood". The prescription is "Guipi Decoction" with additions and subtractions of hemostatic drugs.

(2) Hemorrhoidal masses of patients with hemorrhoidal bleeding frequently fall out and are generally difficult to reduce. This is mostly due to old age, physical weakness or long-term illness, resulting in qi deficiency and sinking. It is advisable to replenish qi and nourish blood. The prescription of "Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang" can be modified. If the hemorrhoids are emplaced (grow into the rectum or anus), the onset will be sudden and the pain will be unbearable. This is caused by the downward flow of damp heat. The treatment should be detoxifying and clearing away heat. The prescription can be "Zhi Tong Ru Shen Tang" with modifications. If there is also constipation, "Neishu Huanglian Tang" can be used instead to clear the bowels and reduce heat. In addition to taking the above-mentioned prescriptions after syndrome differentiation, hemorrhoid patients can also use equal amounts of gallnut and potassium saltpeter to boil and fumigate the affected area, and at the same time choose various hemorrhoid suppositories on the market to plug the anus.

This method of internal and external attack (plugging) can usually shorten the entire course of treatment and achieve recovery sooner!

There are many reasons that lead to hemorrhoids, and prevention is the most important thing. In life we must arrange our diet reasonably and avoid eating spicy food frequently. Drink more water and eat more fruits and vegetables. The most important thing is to develop good bowel habits and keep the area around the anus clean. And increase physical exercise.
