Irritable bowel syndrome, also known as irritable bowel syndrome, is a common functional gastrointestinal disease with a very high incidence rate, second only to the common cold. It is mainly divided into three types: diarrhea type, constipation type and alternating type (i.e. diarrhea and constipation occur alternately). All three types may cause abdominal discomfort or bloating. This disease is more common in Western countries. Due to the fast pace of life, fierce social competition, people's mental problems are in a tense state and the incidence rate is high. With the acceleration of development, this disease is gradually increasing in our country.

Emotional factors, diet, and medications can all cause or aggravate irritable bowel syndrome. Patients with this disease are more anxious or depressed. Patients often experience abdominal discomfort, bloating, flatulence, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and inattention.

Psychological counseling is very important in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome. Regular physical activity helps to reduce stress response. Patients should try to do aerobic exercise for more than 30 minutes 3 to 4 times a week, which is beneficial to intestinal recovery and promotes intestinal peristalsis. During the treatment, the intake of beans, cabbage, etc. should be minimized.

What patients with irritable bowel syndrome should pay attention to

1. Maintain a regular daily routine and eat three meals at regular times and in regular amounts. Try not to stay up late or reverse your day and night schedule.

2. Don’t stay in a state of tension for a long time, make yourself feel relaxed.

3. Drink more water. Do not drink stimulating drinks, such as strong tea, coffee, alcohol, etc.

4. Your daily diet should be as light as possible, eat less greasy and high-fat foods, and avoid fried foods.

Individuals can make a preliminary diagnosis based on the following symptoms: Abdominal discomfort for more than 12 weeks (continuous or discontinuous) and two of the following three characteristics:

(1) Relief of pain and discomfort after defecation

(2) Changes in bowel movement frequency

(3) Changes in stool hardness (hard or loose stools)

The following symptoms do not have to be present, but the more they occur, the more certain the diagnosis will be:

1. Abnormal bowel movement frequency

2. Abnormal stool appearance more than once out of every four times

3. Abnormal bowel movements more than once out of every four times

4. More than 1 out of every 4 stools is mucus

5. Feeling bloated more than 1 day out of every 4 days

Most people in China do not seek medical treatment for irritable bowel syndrome, which leads to a "sub-healthy" state of the body and a decline in quality of life. Therefore, experts call for people to go to the hospital for detailed examinations in time if they have intestinal dysfunction or frequent diarrhea, abdominal pain, or constipation symptoms, so as to restore their health as soon as possible.
